Why do us Brits have a bad reputation abroad

On Friday, I received an email from Dave, an English backpacker, currently travelling around Europe, who wanted me to blog about his experience whilst in out in Zagreb, with his friends on Wednesday night.

Why do us Brits have a bad reputation abroad

He had just finished eating dinner, and wanted to visit a cash machine, when he got talking to a group of English football fans stood outside the restaurant, having a quiet drink – minutes later, three Croatian police officers came up to the group and started to push them around, and escorted them into the police van.

The group were put in jail cells and later told after being released that the police had arrested a large number of England football fans because they were worried that they would start fights after the game – this has ruined Dave’s Croatia experiences and it made me think back to my travels.

The Happy Hotelier

Yesterday, I found a nice looking hotel blog called Happy Hotelier that is written by Guido J. van den Elshout who is owner of the Haagsche Suites, a luxury hotel in The Hague, Holland. Guido primary blogs about hotel news and features some of the World’s most unusual and luxury hotels.

The Happy Hotelier

Whilst the blog theme is easy to navigate and the content is very interesting to read, it’s unfortunate, that this blog isn’t updated more regular – I’m hoping that this review on Travel Rants will give Guido the incentive he needs to continue to blog about the World of hotels.

If your looking for news on hotels, or fancy a stay in a luxury hotel then drop by and read the Happy Hotelier.

Visit Bath & Britain’s only natural thermal spa

The city of Bath is one of the Britain’s most visited cities, primarily because of it’s World heritage status and roman baths fed by three hot springs. The water is believed to be a cure for many afflictions, and because the city is within travelling distance from London and Bristol it has become a very popular city with tourists from around the World.

Visit Bath & Britains only natural thermal spa

Twenty-eight years after the last person bathed in Bath’s natural thermal waters, Thermae Bath Spa is now open for business. Located in the heart of Bath, a World Heritage City, this development has involved the restoration of five historic buildings, including the 18th century Hot and Cross baths and the construction of the New Royal Bath.

The most ‘eye-catching’ aspect of the new Spa is the open air, rooftop pool. Benefiting from the natural thermal waters, the pool can be used all year round – Bathers can enjoy a swim against the beautiful backdrop of the Bath skyline and distant rolling hills of Cotswold countryside.

So, if your thinking about a relaxing, romantic weekend, then Bath could quite possibly be your dream city, with fantastic luxury hotels, small romantic restaurants, and don’t forget to unwind in Britain’s only natural thermal spa.

Fly with us … and be tagged like a criminal

The world of airport security has gone crazy with reports that research is underway to introduce the electronic tagging of passengers at airports. The prototype technology is to be tested at an airport in Hungary, and could, if successful, become a reality in two years.

Fly with us … and be tagged like a criminal

The tagging project, known as Optag means that each passenger will be issued with a tag at check-in and a reader would detect where the passengers were located within the airport. The project will also be investigating a range of other airport security tools to help detect terrorism.

I realise that it is important to ensure safety within airports, but tagging people like we are criminals, is in my opinion not the right way to go about it. It seems a flawed idea anyway, because what happens if you loose your tag – are you going to be delayed from getting on the plane to be re-tagged? Crazy I tell you.
