Ryanair offering free flights to European destinations

For those of you who might be looking for cheapo flights, Ryanair are offering [free] flights from a number of UK airports to holiday destinations through-out Europe.

Ryanair offering free flights to European destinations

The deals rule out school holidays, bank and public holidays, and no one where I work has found a free flight yet, but they are flights to Stockholm from Liverpool for as little as £7 there and £0.01 back.

I’m not tempted because I’m watching my carbon footprint after Kevin, from Travolution, gave me a hard time for flying down to London! Hehe

Remember if you book a flight with Ryanair, and they cancel the flight, or you are delayed, they will more than likely leave you stranded at the airport, but take out travel insurance and remember the EEC directive which means they have to look after you.

American Airlines launch Milestones e-magazine

An email from American Airlines arrived in my inbox today informing me of the launch of their new video e-magazine, called Milestones, which also offers a community forum where travellers can share photos from their travels.

The videos feature famous landmarks and provide an overview of destinations, the first being Rome. I enjoyed watching the short video and it installs some humour into what could of been, yet another travel video of Italy’s capital city. I was impressed to read that they are 56 million AAdvantage members worldwide, which apparently is free to join.

Finally, I received a few invites to Vibe agent a new travel community where members can write hotel reviews, create groups, and network with travel addicts like myself. They kindly offered me another 10 invites, so if you’d like to join this new community ahead of its launch then drop me an email.

That’s it – time for my bed.

Low Cost Airlines threatened with Legal Action

I found an interesting post on the Travel Weekly blog, regarding the news that the Office of Fair Trading is going to clamp down on dodgy air fares. About time too. I’m sick of seeing these ads by Ryanair [others are guilty too] for 1 penny flights.

Low Cost Airlines threatened with Legal Action

You can spend hours searching for these flights, and when you do, add taxes, luggage allowances and the price jumps to £50 so in my opinion it isn’t fair trading.

Airlines seem to think they can get away with anything, you only have to read my post a month or so back about compensation payments the airlines aren’t paying to consumers.

Quote from Travel Weekly:

It is not hard to see why they might want to drag their feet. Diminish a low-cost’s ability to slap did-I-just-see-that fares on the nearest flat surface and you take away its most effective way of luring punters

Time will tell if OFT are serious about taking legal action against airlines.

A Charter airline experience

My dad’s just come back from a week’s family holiday in Portugal, and as usual I asked my dad what the airline was like, the holiday accommodation, did you face and problems whilst in resort, etc, and this was the start of a rant about charter airlines, and that he’ll never book a flight with one again.

A Charter airline experience

The airline told passengers that there was a delay due to issues with the plane, so they sat it out at Manchester airport for 3 hours, and then finally they started to embark, on to the airplane.

As soon as everyone was sat down, the captain informed everyone that there was now a problem with the door – in that it wouldn’t shut properly! At this point my sister, who hates flying, went white as a sheet, and one lady decided that the flight was cursed, and she tried to get off the plane.

An hour later, the door fixed hurray, time to depart – oh but no, the captain, came on again and said, that the baggage hadn’t all being loaded, even though at this point they had an hour whilst the door was being fixed.

Finally, five hours later, they departed, arrived at the villa in Portugal at 8pm, shattered, hungry and in the need for alcohol. To be honest, this could happen on a charter or schedule airline, but because of the experience, my dad will never fly on a chartered airline again.

p.s this is my last blog post until Friday, as I am heading to the Lake District for a few days.
