Hi Darren,

Only been on one cruise - the holiday was really last minute let alone the choice to go on a cruise.

Having priced up some more traditional holidays - such as the usual beach break in the Med and then compared to the price of a last minute (Med) cruise there wasn't much in it.

The cruise was more of an informal type - suited us. Getting to see so many different places (although briefly) was great and we very much enjoyed it and will be doing it again. Surprised at the variety of ages on board too.

Be warned that if you ring P&O and book a cabin after asking for a cabin with a window,not a porthole don't assume that you will have that if they offer you an upgrade.

Decline upgrade options unless confirmed by you first. We had a most dissappionting cruise in a room with a small porthole that you had to stand on the bed to see out of. P&O called it an upgrade because it was a higher level and bigger room but that was not was asked for in the original booking.

It also was at the very front of the boat, so noisy with droning of engines, a metallic rattle in the ceiling and right next to the crews gymnasium that clanged and banged at all hours of the night. Yes I have complained to P&O and the response was an insult.We had disturbed sleep 7 0ut of 10 nights due to loud banging noises.

This was my second cruise and probably my last as this experience brought home the fact that if you are not happy you are stuck on that ship till the end and just have to suck it up as complaining is wasted when you are told there are no other cabins available on the ship.

No real complaints from me. I've only been on 2 cruises, but compared to the issues I often run into on my normal beach vacation cruises are great. The things people are objecting to are fairly minor in my opinion, but to each his own. As for me I am looking right now for a great deal on a cruise for Feb 2011. I am really looking forward to it.

"Oh dear, haven’t you realised by now that I write about the negative side of travel?" Yes of course but looks like this time there isn't that much of a negative side so that made me wonder why you even asked the question.

@Nick
Ah, but have they really?
We were assured before we booked that this policy was in operation, but no-one in charge on board bothered to enforce it.
A few No Smoking signs would not go amiss, but then it would sully their Art-Deco interiors!
As I said before, the Captain made announcements but when people see ash trays outside lifts they feel safe in assuming it's ok to smoke!
One cabin deck absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke, but luckily it wasn't the level we were on.
