Today I have been writing on Travel Rants for five years and I still enjoy writing the blog. There have been some downs but in general I have hosted some interesting discussions and who would have thought that I would win an award, be on TV and radio, it’s taken me out of my comfort zone.

Lack of ranting
I have gone from writing daily to once or twice a week, so, a number of you emailed me recently asking why I have been so quiet. In February I reduced my hours in the day job and spent most of my time working on my new project, My Life in Leeds, which is a new challenge and one that I am enjoying.
I have realised how much of a resource this blog is, with over 1200 blog posts and a few dozen consumer guides. Traffic has not dropped but actually increased despite not writing regularly. I receive and reply to a lot of emails from consumers so I think there’s a need for an independent blog/site like this for UK consumers.
Publishing new content twice weekly
From April I have decided to drop all advertising on the blog and that’s because I found myself spending more time doing administration and dealing with requests for advertising that never materialised. So, rather than writing daily, I will now be publishing two posts a week on a Tuesday and Thursday.
You can subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Twitter and Facebook to receive updates.
Podcast and newsletter
From April I will also be recording a monthly 10-minute travel podcast to cover some of the month’s topics affecting consumers. The newsletter will be sent at the end of the month and feature travel consumer news and blog content that I think is interesting and useful for readers. The newsletter is all about sharing.
Suggestions welcome for improvements
That’s it really, I just wanted to update you all and provide a bit of consistency to the blog, so you know when I will be publishing new content. If you have any suggestions for improving the blog, or ideas for content then please contact me and let me know.

Thanks for the update, Darren. I’ve found that on my other blog, dropping posting frequency was a good step towards maintaining both my own interest and the quality that readers expected.

Sounds like a great decision, Darren — adjust your pace before you *do* burn out on this site. If it’s no fun, why bother?

I have enjoyed your blog posts over the past couple years, and appreciate your contributions to the travel community. Your reduction in posts is absolutely understandable. Thanks for all of your insight over the years!
