I invited Pet Airways to comment via Twitter but they didn’t take me up on it, which is a shame because it would have been nice to get their point of view. I’m not convinced though that its the best thing for the environment.

I would imagine that “pet only airlines” will fill a need. Friends of mine travel twice a year with their cats and find it a hassle each time. However, they do not put them in the cargo hold. They travel in the cabin. Of course, this is costly and requires health certificates issued by their vet prior to travel. With them, the big issue is separation anxiety. Both for them and the cats.

I agree that its not much different from them travelling in the cargo hold. I don’t really see the point in this at all.
