Millions of holidaymakers will be heading off on their summer holiday soon and let’s be honest we all get excited and sometimes leave our brain at home. People forget passports, not take out travel insurance, and unbelievable as it sounds, some even manage to arrive at the airport on the wrong day.

I’m not sure if this is the right place to leave the tips:

1. Bring old underwear! Then you can throw them out once you’ve worn them, leaving space in your bag and saving you from washing them.

2. Be prepared, but not TOO prepared. The key to having a good trip is advance planning. However, planning too much can lead to a boring and clinical experience. Make sure you are ready for the trip, but not so ready that you can’t be flexible.

3. Pack everything you need, then take it out, divide the pile in half and take that. Otherwise, you’ll bring too much.

4. Buy a smaller bag than you think you’ll need. If you have a big bag, you WILL fill it up. (See tip #3)

5. Write it down! Trust me, if you don’t keep a journal (online or not) you WILL forget your amazing experiences. Writing a blog or travel journal will help you remember.

Darren

Here is my count down

When you book or before, check your passport is valid and if you need a visa.

1 month before.
Check vaccinations with GP
Make sure you know how you’re getting to the airport and book it if you have not already
Make shopping list and get it with a normal shop, suntan location etc.

1 week before
Make sure you have all your paperwork. Tickets, Passport etc.
Make sure you have your money.
Remember that for a week you do not need 50 T-shirts etc. use Louise’s tip, cut what you plan to take in half.

Finally, make sure someone knows where you’re going and take emergency phone numbers with you. (Credit card numbers etc.)
