It’s that time of the year where everyone is writing a review of the last 12 months, and what they predict in 2009. I am going to start off by highlighting the popular posts written by yours truly over the last 12 months, there’s some cracking discussions, some heated, some not.

ABTA convention will cost £3k in carbon offsetting

This post hasn’t made the slightest bit of difference as ATBA have organised their annual conference in Barcelona in 2009, but it was a great debate that got Nathan at Travel Weekly and Kevin at Travolution in defensive mode, but this generated great discussion, and even a response from ABTA.

The debate continues

Airlines to charge obese passengers

This was the most difficult post to moderate with 108 comments. In general the discussion was split into two corners, one set of consumers who were against airlines charging obese passengers and one corner that were err all for it.

No future for the tourist information office

Another controversial post which generated a discussion regarding the future of the tourist information office. I gave some examples of what the tourism boards could do to make it a nicer experience and some brilliant points were made in the post, and a great discussion.

The world’s most dangerous destinations

I wrote this post off the back of an article I read and didn’t imagine generating such an interesting discussion. From reading between the lines South Africa and the USA has the world’s most dangerous cities, but the debate is still on-going, with cities like Recife in Brazil being added.

These are just a few examples of the interesting debates had on Travel Rants in the last 12 months and I would like to thank readers for getting involved. It’s interesting that I’ve seen more travel companies getting involved along with consumers, and that’s what I wanted this blog to be all about.

@ Akshay

No problem, thanks for commenting. Read the comments on the dangerous destination post, there’s some time spent getting to the debate by readers.

The world’s most dangerous places is always a fascinating topic, but the weight issue has to be #1. It is something that could only be happening in this era of Western wealth. If I remember correctly: a country actually is giving two seat for over-weight passengers (second for free). Canada, I believe.
