I am just reading that flights to and from the UK have been cancelled and delayed due to a computer glitch at the main air traffic control centre in Hampshire. It’s not been a good few weeks for air passengers and you have to feel sorry for those passengers affected.

Hat Tip: BBC News
I’ve just found out that Air traffic controllers have said they hoped to restore the system by early evening. Looking at the Manchester airport arrivals and departures, most of the flights are still being delayed by 1 to 2 hours.
It might be that I have been slow to pick up on this news and everything is slowly getting back to normal, so if you are departing any UK airport tonight or tomorrow morning I would suggest that you contact the airport or visit their website.
Have you been affected by the grounding of flights? Leave your comments and I will publish them here. As usual I will update this post as I receive more information about this incident.

It all originated with a computer glitch at the National Air Traffic Service centre at Swanwick. Back in 2002 it was even worse – in three months there were problems with the computer system on three different occasions causing disruption.
The privatisation of NATS was madness, and I think public opinion was very much against it. In just the same way I think things have got worse with the railways after privatisation – think Hatfield, Southall, Paddington.

Better safe than sorry eh!

@ Carol
I vaguely remember the 2002 problems. I suppose with all big technology projects they will be teething problems. I would rather their be cancellations and delays than put peoples lives at risk.
@ Debo
Definatly. Even so its frustrating being involved in the delays and cancellations.
