I’ve wandered around the city centre this lunchtime to try and find a late holiday deal from the 13 September, and I am struggling. As usual I have left my holiday booking to the last minute and you would have thought that I would have learnt from previous years.

The problem is that I have no idea where I want to go, and where I’d like to go is out of my budget.
I have to admit that the recent news of stranded Zoom passengers has put doubts in my head about organising my own holiday, but it seems to be the only option right now. What has happened to that great £200 late holiday deal that existed a few years ago?
For those interested in helping me out:
I am on leave from 13 September – 21 September. My budget is £300 for 7 days, including flight, accommodation, insurance, and I am travelling alone. I’d like to travel from airports in Leeds, Doncaster, Manchester or Liverpool (maybe Birmingham) and I want to relax for a week in sunshine, preferably self catering.
Off my list of destinations is Greece and Spain, but open to most other places.
Is there anyone up for the challenge?

Ryanair from Birmingham - Biarritz: R/T total with taxes 45.70GBP (9/13 - 9/20)
Train or bus from Biarritz to San Sebastian, Spain: no more than 6 euros each way.
Hotel Niza, San Sebastian - 64 euro/night. Ask for a room facing the bay. No, it’s not self-catering, but this hotel is amazing, especially for the price.
Graze on tapas for 6 days straight! It’s a foodie town, and it’s super cheap, and the tapas is the best you’ll ever have.

San Sebastian is a top city, absolutely loved it there, but Spain is off Darren’s list. Biarritz could be an interesting choice, though what’s the sun situation around then?
Darren, what about Morocco? Essaouira is a chilled out town on the Atlantic coast.
It’s a shame that Holidaycrunch.com isn’t up and running yet ![]()

One of our producers found two deals that could be suitable:
£275– Turkey 5 star All Inclusive September departing Humberside

– and –
7nt Active Holiday Package in a central hotel - vibrant resort of Chamonix! Flight from Liverpool departing 14th Sept.

We also launched a new section on our site today - Winter Sun under £300. However most of the deals are from October onwards.

@Garri - READING ARE FUN. I totally missed the “Off” part. Oh, well.
foxnomad | 4 September, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Gotta agree with Glyn, Turkey is well worth the price. I’d also recommend Croatia as well..
Darren Cronian | 4 September, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Great suggestions! Keep them coming.
@ Miss Expatria
I actually like the idea of France/Spain. Few days in Biarritz then to San Sebastian.
@ Glyn
Thanks for the links will check them out. I don’t know why but I always forget about your site.
@ Foxnomad
A lot of people have said Turkey but I have heard so many bad things about it. I suppose I should see it for myself to make my own mind up.
@ Garri
Morocco sounds good

Darren,
Turkey is great as long as you get the right place, and Lee would tell you the same if he wasn’t there at the moment.
Nick | 5 September, 2008 at 10:24 am
Forgot the good bit, the suggestion, something different to what’s already been suggested. 1 person to Kusadasi from Manchester on the 15th for 6 nights £184 B&B.
Darren Cronian | 5 September, 2008 at 12:32 pm
@ Nick
Is that including flight and accomodation or just flight? Sounds a bit of a bargain. If it’s for the package could you email me details - sounds very tempting.

I’m Just Loving the suggestion Glyn Owen;
Here’s the Result
Special Offer from Monster Travel:
£275– Turkey 5 star All Inclusive September
We’re sorry, this special has either sold out due to huge demand or may no longer be available at the originally advertised price, terms and conditions.
Makes you wonder if it was a real deal!!!
Lee Harrison | 5 September, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Have just looked at the Travelzoo new Winter section as mentioned above by Glyn who offers winter sun under £300 ,and found 5 Star Corinthia Palace Hotel in Malta is being advertised at £63.00. Reading small print prices are converted to euros and no mention of flights etc.
Just thinking 7 Nights at £63 is that not £441.00 or do i need to brush up on my maths?
Perhaps glyn can put me right if i’ve missed something!

How about Bulgaria Darren ( avaialable at the time of Checking)
Out of the eurozone, personally It’s not my cup of tea and wouldn’t expect anything of the accommodation ( but that’s what to epect for under £300.00), but it’s on the Black sea coast, narrow cobbled streets and gabled houses and apart from insurance within budget and from Leeds. Might be worth the Gamble !

Mr Harrison
The Turkey offer was live yesterday at time of posting. Hot deals like this one will always sell out fast - so next time you’ll have to be quicker off the mark. There are similar priced deals to be found on Monster Travel but not for the dates Darren specified.
The Corinthia deal is £63 per night, a fantastic price for a 5-star hotel. You’re right, it would set you back £441 for seven nights, and…….£882 for a fortnight. Not sure of your point here - the section is not called Winter “7-night” Breaks under £300. You can get flights to Malta for £69 and stay three nights for a total of £258 (under £300).
Lee Harrison ( Owner of select World Travel Ltd) | 5 September, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Thanks for the reply Glynn, I’d love to know the name and resort of this “5″ Star All Inclusive Hotel at just £275.00 based on a single person in September. Please could you provide more details of the name and location?
I agree the site is not called winter “7 Night” Breaks under £300, but just like me, I expect everybody looking at the site would be thinking oh great a 7 night holiday for under £300.00 .
I did notice the following when looking at the Corinthia though,
Quote “Taxes and any fees above are not included in the rate and additional fees imposed by the hotel may apply in addition to those shown above.”

Do try out Turkey, it is wonderful. Stay away from the overbuilt places like Kudasi or Marmaris and look at the small places like Fethiye. Cappadocia is wonderful as is Ephesus area. If you love cities, Istanbul is gorgeous and exotic. We listed the budget places we stayed at on our website.
There is a little island near Kaz that is idyllic and very cheap if you want to get away from it all.
Darren Cronian | 8 September, 2008 at 1:48 am
Thank you for all of the excellent suggestions both in comments and in my email inbox.
It’s saved me a lot of time.
I’ll be in touch with those I am interested to hear more information.
@ Soultravelers3
I would like to try Turkey for myself rather than listen to what people say about it. Will keep you posted where I end up travelling to.
Darren Cronian | 9 September, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Ok, I am struggling..
Thinking 13/09 Majorca, Southern Spain, Algarve, somewhere warm. I’m even open to Greek Islands again as I just want to get away for a week. £300 budget, but prepared to go a little higher.
Anyone?
Will pay TODAY with debit card.
Darren Cronian | 9 September, 2008 at 1:17 pm
P.s. not keen on Turkey as I need to research/never been before, standard of hotels for my budget seems not too good.
Garri | 9 September, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Darren, wouldn’t it be wiser to pay with credit card?
Lizelle | 10 September, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Hi Darren
I was searching the web for travel websites to advertise my travel agency business and came accross your post. Unfortunately I am not up and running yet, otherwise I would’ve been able to seach a late deal for you.
What I can suggest is Croatia. It is really beautiful and not that expensive
I’ve found the holiday below:
1 x Bed & Breakfast - Single Room (A) @ £454.91 for the Total package
Flights
Manchester to Dubrovnik
Depart 14th Sep 2008, 08:40, Arrive 14th Sep 2008, 12:35
Flights

Depart 21st Sep 2008, 13:35, Arrive 21st Sep 2008, 15:40
Hotel description
The Bon Repos complex is situated next to the sea, in Korcula, Croatia. It is consisted of two hotels offering guests a modern environment, the same comfort and services. The comfortable rooms, the amazing view, the pool, the tavern, the 3 bars, the 2 tennis courts, the playground and the other hotel amenities contribute to enjoy a marvellous holiday. It is the ideal destination for families and couples looking for an entertaining and relaxing stay. The hotel is 3 km from the town centre and approximately 140 km from the airport of Dubrovnik.
Another very excellent value for money destination is Tunisia - especially Sousse. It is really affordable and the Hotels are right on the beach. There are loads to do, from camel rides into the desert to visiting the markets in the medina.
If you are interested in the Croatia holiday, let me know and I’ll give you the the travel website I found it on
