If you all continue to pay then businesses will take your money they know most of you are too lazy and self-interested (i.e I want my holiday for cheap) to bother really arguing the toss or demanding other payment avenues. Most British people are now too soft and timid-too afraid of kicking up a fuss to change anything.

No good whinging on forums or newspapers you need to take action together and force the businesses to drop or absorb the charges, after all they choose to do business this way so its their cost not the customers. If everybody boycotted or argued with them they would soon change thier tune. Don't depend on people like OFT they are in thrall to big business.

I have no problem paying "real" transaction costs but I do not believe the airlines when they charge such large amounts. Here in Holland we do not even have debit cards! so we have no option but to pay by credit card.

I have just paid a credit card handling fee on the Ryan air website for 20 euro!!! Apparently the flight was charged tax free?!?! obviously not! So why don't Ryanair break down these costs for tax and fuel and then we can see an honest reflection of these charges? Probably once they start detailing true costs they can't take their little extra cuts out of the fee's.

Why don't they just be honest and charge the flight at a higher cost? Because at the end of the day customers get to a point where they hate feeling ripped off and will just pay the extra to go with a company like KLM or British Airways who operate more on a what you see is what you pay type basis.

Lets face it the flights are cheap anyway even with the high costs, it is just the principal of the whole "pulling the wool over the customers eyes" type games these low cost airlines like to play.

johnny, you are clearly missing some fundamental factors here.... false advertising for one ie. advertising a flight for £1 and charging a lot more due to hidden costs. Two. True Price or cost transparency - ie. stating a £8 charge is for something that in reality costs less than £1. This is basically fraud to a certain degree. If the £8 (or extra £7 above the true cost) is for additional admin or profit - then this should be stated - not dressed up as something else.

pathetic! Why argue over £8? company has to make money somehow. if you don't like it buy somewhere else, the flight will prob cost you £300 and they probably will even give you free credit card transactions and goodies too. think logically, noone will give you a free flight or next to nothing. why does all these grassers have to get trading standards involve? Just shop elsewhere if you dont like the charges or the price.

Hi,
You can add Aerlingus to the growing number of airlines that now charge this "handling fee". Seems like Ryanair are not the only airline who want a piece of this MOney For Nothing action! It’s unreal how they can get anyway with it. I'd prefer if they just put up the price of the flight by the same amount rather than trying to convince me I've gotten a cheap deal from their airline and then change the amount I'm to pay at the last moment. It's the principle of the thing! I was online yesterday about to book a flight with Ryanair and because of the handling fee now being charged, the final straw in regards to Ryanair, I decided to book my flight elsewhere, not give them the satisfaction. Today I find out Aerlingus do the same thing! Changing airlines isn't going to be enough obviously, this practice needs to be stopped by the EU and similar governing bodies.
