I have learnt loads of great tips this week, but this weekend I won’t be around to blog as I’ll be attending UK WordCamp, in Birmingham. This weekend’s guest travel tip writers are Rob from Avis and Tamara from Mr & Mrs Smith.

Be gentle with them.
Today, we have four bloggers reveal their travel tips.
Leyla from Women on the road
» Don’t ever accept any medicine or drugs from strangers. If you’re ill, go to a pharmacy.
» In daytime, carry your travel money belt instead of a pack: you’ll be less of a target.
» Lock your windows at night if you’re near the ground or if there is a balcony.
» Make sure the lock on your door works. If it doesn’t, use your own padlock or combination lock
» Leave the key in the lock when you sleep, but twist it sideways so no one can push it out
Barbara from the Hole in the Donut
» Put an ICE (In Case of Emergency) in your phone; emergency personnel are trained to look for this
» Check that the seal on the cap is not broken when you buy bottled water
» Carry a card with translations of important phrases into the language of the country you are visiting
» Always check each day that the windows and sliding doors in your room are locked from the inside.
» Email your travel itinerary to someone you trust and keep them informed of any changes
Mark from Travel Wonders
» Illness is a traveller’s worst enemy. So eats healthily and well.
» Be conscious of cleanliness. Wash hands before eating to stay healthy.
» Do a bit of pre-reading to have some feel of the culture and history of where you are visiting.
» Don’t be a victim of a strict itinerary. Some of the best travel experiences happen spontaneously.
» Most importantly, leave every place that you visit better than when you arrived.
Jeanne from Soultravelers
» Save money by going for longer, get the most out of the long-haul flight costs
» Have hand wipes handy, kids are messy
» Carry food and water at all times.
» Consider camping or renting RV as is a great way to travel as a family.
» GPS helps tremendously in foreign lands, especially when you do not know the language.
I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the travel bloggers who have submitted me their travel tips, without you, the healthy and smarter travel week would not have been possible. Carry on writing great travel content and keep on blogging.

I’d like to add : don’t bring large amounts of cash, get what you need. Stash it in your savings so you’d just withdraw via atm machines. When going somewhere, bring the cash you think you’d spend plus extra for emergencies, but leave some in a secret place. Either back in your hotel or luggage where only you can find it. My friend lost his wallet once while pub-hopping, luckily he stashed a few dollars in his luggage. Saved him from hunger and gas.

I think Mark’s tip is a great point.
“Don’t be a victim of a strict itinerary. Some of the best travel experiences happen spontaneously.”
I’m too damn organised which I think can spoil your holiday, and I plan my holiday to the degree I have a rough idea of what I am doing each day, which can be boring. Great tips bloggers!
