Even if you’ve got a partner and a family, it’s great fun to get away for a weekend - or even a week or two with just your girlfriends. Apparently girls only holidays are becoming a really popular trend and more travel companies and hotels are offering special packages for these kinds of trips.

Tips for planning and enjoying a girls only holiday

These are a few of my tips for planning a successful girlie getaway:

Plan far ahead

Set the date really early, six months or more ahead if you can. That gives everyone enough time to plan their work and family lives around the trip, so that more of your girlfriends are free to come. Apart from making sure that there are plenty of participants, it also gives you more time to anticipate the trip and start working on planning a few more details.

Of course, you also don’t want to overplan – girls’ holidays are also about being spontaneous!

The more the merrier

I think there’s no limit of how many women can share a vacation together, and usually more just means it’s better. Too few, and you risk having to hang around with someone who’d rather be doing something else. If the group is big enough there’ll always be an activity on offer that you want to do.

Enjoy the planning

As with any trip, half the fun is in the preparation, and getting together for coffee or dinner with the girls is a great chance to throw around travel brochures, internet research and other ideas. If you are travelling with girlfriends who don’t live close to you, or everybody is busy with work and families, you can also set up an online group to share hotel ideas, sightseeing inspirations and any other pre-trip excitement.

Be a bit decadent

Plan in some particularly female activities like getting a spa treatment - something you might not do on holiday if your other half was there. Doing this stuff together is even more fun, and some places will book you in at a group discount rate.

Ask for discounts

Whether you’re booking your hotel accommodation or a restaurant, mention that you’re travelling with a group and you might find out about special packages or discounted rates. If girls only holidays are one of the next big trends, you can be sure that plenty of travel operators are trying to attract these groups to their services.

Have fun

When the holiday comes around, relax. Take a good book. Don’t do anything you don’t want to do. And make sure you book accommodation that includes housekeeping so none of you have to clean up. The whole point of being away on holidays with your girlfriends is that you all have the chance to avoid the responsibilities and stresses of everyday life.

I recommend a cabin or apt which can be shared by all. There’s nothing like a group of friends sharing a living space for an entire weekend!

@ Elizabeth

I couldn’t think of anything worse ha, but when I was younger, we always stayed in an apartment, shared living space, it was fun, and the stories I could tell!
