I am not sure why I have a soft spot for SilverJet, but the news today that they have suspended flights saddens me. Maybe I am going soft in my old age but as much as I rant about airlines, they are going through a tough time at the moment.

Despite that though, consumers are loosing trust and when it means that 10,000 passengers are reportedly affected, then the future for air travel doesn’t look too rosy. With the price of oil set to increase you have to think when will this madness end.

We extend our sincerest apologies to those of you who have travel plans with Silverjet in the future and at present. You are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements with other carriers, and contact your credit card company or travel agent directly for information on obtaining refunds.
I understand Virgin Atlantic and British Airways are offering discounted flights for SilverJet customers, click the airline links for more information. I’d be interested to hear if you are affected by SilverJet’s decision to ground it’s flights.

Indeed. I was booked to fly SIlverJet tomorrow morning. I rebooked to Emirates this morning only to get an email at work outlining a deal from Virgin Atlantic for people up the Khyber who need a flight.
I am flying Business out / Economy back with Emirates for £1400 - VAA are doing Upper Class both ways for £1450. Dang!
Similar good deals apply on Economy.
I liked SIlverJet but with the economy the way it is heading and jet fuel prices heading further and further North it was only a matter of time…
Lots of US airlines have gone to the wall - the BIG question is - how are the major airlines doing and are any of them next for the deadpool?

Glad you got another flight, be it not business class both ways. As for whose next, I think that’s a very good question.
I suspect it’ll be another low cost carrier which has formed in the last 1 yr - 18 months that will be next. Who that’ll be though is anyones guess.

14 Airlines so far this year and counting…Just to let everyone know you can get airline failure insurance to cover you against a airline going bust, and it cheap, to give an idea we sell this currently at £3.50 per person, and for additional £1 we also cover anything else such as car hire, hotel etc.

That’s interesting. Would someone be able to pay that if they were not booking a holiday with you though? i.e. I booked a flight and hotel online.

Ryanair is reporting profits despite the price of oil so obviously someone is doing something right there.

Just read back, did not get the follow up on this post.
No you can not buy the protection from us unless we mak the booking, it is the law of the land. Trust me if it was not I would be more than happy to.
Just to note all reservations booked though their agents on silverjet are protected, but not if you booked direct.

Just to add, it looks like SJ are coming back. Typical that, I book with SJ, they go bust two days before I fly out and then they announce their return two days before I fly home. Economy. Gutted!
