If you are a regular reader you will read my rants, week in, week out, so I thought for a change I will let readers rant. Yes, this blog is open for you to let off steam and rant about travel issues that really make you annoyed as a consumer or traveller.

I’d love to hear what annoys you about any aspect of Travel – be it flight delays, rude travel agents, or badly managed hotels. Simply complete the comments form with your rant and please remember that comments are moderated and advertising, hateful or other inappropriate comments will be deleted.
I’m looking forward to read your rants

travel websites that use Flash! Hotel sites being the worst culprits.
Debbie | 13 May, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Rental car agencies that give you the car with the tank 3/4 full. You are supposed to return the car 3/4 full, but that’s almost impossible to do.
I suspect the agencies syphon off the extra gas to save money on refilling vehicles that are returned empty.

@ Garri
I was epecting more of a rant from you!
What annoys you about flash? Some sites go over the top, but they are some nice looking flash sites if done properly.
Garri | 13 May, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Darren, the keywords are: if done properly ![]()
Darren Cronian | 14 May, 2008 at 12:40 pm
@ Debbie
I always thought that you had received the car with a full tank of petrol and you had to return the car with a tank full too.
I don’t drive so have never hired a car mind.

Darren’s asking for trouble because he saw me ranting about Transperth on Twitter … if you ever come to Perth, don’t expect to be able to use the bus service. Heck, this is true of many places you can travel to when public transport’s not that tourist friendly … but in a sprawling urban centre like Perth then buses are tragic. Waited 25 mins for one in peak today and then it drove by because it was “full”, and I ended up walking an hour instead!

The one thing that annoys me more than anything else are airports. I fly often and there is nothing I hate more than an airport. The only good one is probably Chengi in Singapore but the rest suck. The layouts are awful, the service appealing, and the food overpriced. You think people being in the business of travel would be better about it. If an airport is really really bad, I avoid flying into that airport ever again. (Montreal is off my list!!! and I try to avoid Heathrow if I can!)
grrr and airplane food….why can’t people follow JAL or Emirates? If they can make a good meal, why can’t everyone do it!

My rant is the anxiety caused by airport security checkpoints. For me, it began the Thanksigivng immediately following 9/11. I was traveling from RDU to MSY and the snap on my jeans tripped the metal detector. A minute later I was being frisked around the waist of my jeans by some woman while a National Guardsman stood directly behind me with an loaded assault rifle. True story. It’s caused me to take my belt off–and anything metal–before I even get in line!
Debbie | 14 May, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Most agencies rent with the tank full (or near enough to look full on the gauge), but some, for example Enterprise, do not.
Jim | 14 May, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Hey Brian I feel your pain.
While traveling from CVG to DEN after undergoing ACL surgery I was wearing a brace on my right knee. After setting of the alarm I was hustled into a back room by some guy accompanied by a National Guardsman, with his trusty M-16, and made to drop my drawers. Luckily I was not going command that day.

Well Darren,
You could be expecting this one from me: Where is the Travel Blog Carnival on Travelrants??
I really don’t like it you stopped with it. I also don’t like you decided in your wisdom to change the rules to the effect there is no posts anymore about posts, but only travel blogs promotion.
I don’t like it my friend. I hope you reconsider and take a good example from Karen who does it monthly, and a bit automated.
Or should I start one myself?
Darren Cronian | 15 May, 2008 at 1:42 am
@ All
Keep those rants coming. Some great travel annoyances coming through.
@ Guido
I took upon the changes because it was taking up too much of my spare time which I think people assume I run this blog as a full time job.
Points noted though and I need to
look what Karen is doing but how I can invole the blogging community.

I hate travel agents who do not know anything about the destination and instead make-up, lie, rather than having the decency to say that he/she isn’t familiar with the destination. I would give them more credit if they went and found information.

Please can we do something about the airlines charging travellers for making a simple human mistake. It is not fair. I booked a flight, mistakenly put the short version of my friends name and we had to pay over £200 for another flight. My mistake I know but we are all human.
Robin | 15 May, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I would rather sleep on the beach than pay single person supplement. The number of times I have been put into a small room and still expected to pay the extra money. Who can you complain to as the travel agency do not want to listen to me but the hotel are taking single travellers for a ride.
Darren Cronian | 15 May, 2008 at 7:05 pm
@ Craig
I’m not sure I use a travel agency for information on a destination, I use the internet. The advantage for me for an agency is the human contact and that you can just sit back and relax and let the tour operator do the organising.

I am new to this site…I travel about 2-3 weeks out of month. My first comment would be that I wished they created more BUS routes since most of the people I see in the Airports nowadays need to stay on the bus. I get a chuckle while sitting at the gate looking at some of the people out on day passes…better than the State Fair.
Happy Hotelier | 15 May, 2008 at 10:00 pm
I’ll look it up for you and spell it out for you:-)
Darren Cronian | 15 May, 2008 at 11:05 pm
@ Guido
Pardon? Spell it out for me?
@ Dwane
Do you mean more bus routes to the airport, or more buses in general?
Happy Hotelier | 16 May, 2008 at 10:49 am
Pardon my Dutch. I mean explain it to you:-)

I am going to rant about all of those Leeds Supporters that rant about the “illegal” Points deduction given by the F.A and then they go and proove they are good enough to reach Wembley anyway -:)
Seriously Darren Leeds deserve to get there and Good Luck at Wembley. Are you going?
@MARY Mc, I agree with you, it does seem harsh that in this day and age of electronic ticketing that airlines can charge exorbitent fees even for 1 incorrect initial or name, however those are the rules. I take it you didn’t book through a Travel Agent?
We always ask our clients for their name as it appears in their passport and spell it out Phonetically to them, stating A for Alpha, Nfor November etc. That way there should be no problems.
Dwane | 16 May, 2008 at 2:02 pm
@ Darren
Good one…meaning more (USA) bus routes in general to keep some of the travelers OUT of the Airports.
Darren Cronian | 16 May, 2008 at 5:01 pm
@ Dwayne
Good point – From what I have read I think public transport in general in the USA is lacking. The lack of train networks, and poor perception of the greyhound bus network by consumers means I guess most travellers will have to use airlines.
@ Lee
I have bought my coach ticket (all trains fully booked with it being the bank holiday) so I am just waiting for the tickets to come on sale for non season ticket holders. Hopefully I’ll be queuing up midnight on Wednesday for a ticket for the nephew and myself.
What a game.
I really hope we win the play-offs and collect our trophy from the inept FA.
