An interesting day, at lunchtime I had a telephone interview with a reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post regarding my Travolution consumer blog award. Then just after lunch I received a phone call from Sky News asking if I would go on television and talk about Heathrow Terminal 5.

Travel Rants attracts more media attention

Unfortunately, it would have meant a trip to one of their studios during work so I had to say no. On Saturday morning I have another interview, this time with BBC Radio Leeds regarding the state of the public transport system in Yorkshire and particularly in Leeds.

Watch Sky News, tonight at 7pm to hear more about the lessons to be learnt from Heathrow Terminal 5
It seems that no lessons have been learnt. BAA have to report back to the government in 2 months time, but BA have said that the T5 opening should have been delayed. It took them how many years to plan the opening?

This travel consumer blogger is being kept busy.

Give my love to Leeds Darren, I was there for 3 years at art school a zillion years ago! Bet it has changed a lot since I was there!

Darren that’s a pity you couldn’t make your TV debut on Sky. I’d have missed it anyway as we don’t have Sky.

Looks like you are in demand for commentary on all travel related topics.

@ Mary

Which art school did you go to? Leeds has changed so much, even in the past five years. Building work everywhere so it’s still expanding.

@ Karen

I’m not sure I’d have been 100% confident with being on TV, but it would have been a great chance to promote my blog ;)

Congrats on all the attention you’re receiving, Darren! I always hated having to be in front of a TV camera, but I could talk up a storm on the radio!

Do you remember how quick and without any problems all the airport in Munich moved from Riem to the new location between Freising and Erding?
It was only one night that was necessary to move all the airport.
And some years later when the new terminal 2 was opened and Lufthansa moved from T1 to T2 it was the same: one night.
And both times: no problems at all.
What is the problem with BA and Heathrow…???

Well done Darren.

Your name is obviously getting around the media outlets which is good news for you. Hope to see you on television soon.

@ Lee

I missed your slot on Radio 2 but I think you can listen to it online after the event.

@ Mark

Thanks, it is very nerve racking though being invited on radio, reporters calling you, and even Sky News! haha

@ Rohan

Thanks :) Yes, I am not sure if they are finding me through Google, through the award win, or through the press release I sent out.

I should update this post because I was on BBC Radio 4 on Friday. I don’t think I did too bad = the questions made me think on my feet, and the question I was going ‘erm’ ‘erm’ alot but I suppose it’s all part of the experience and you build up confidence the more you do it.

Hi Darren, it was BBC Television, BBC2 and as we were sponsoring the event they had to cut out our interview, however the filming was brilliant and one of the other traders mentioned about us, which was nice. I have an hours recording that we have edited to 9 minutes. I am sending this to the beeb, but I doubt if they will give us permission to copy. I have your address darren, so I’ll send you a copy, it really was an excellent show and really shows just how beautiful our area is.

Darren Cronian on 14 May, 2008 at 12:51 pm #

@ Lee

If you could send me a copy that would be great. Do you plan to have a holiday show in Malvern again in the future?
