As expected, TUI have re-launched Holidays Uncovered, which was purchased in 2007, for an undisclosed sum, and is expected to rival Trip Advisor. Considering that the site was so badly designed before, it’s new look is a massive improvement.

I suspect the challenge was to not make too many changes that it drove it’s regular users away, yet, making the site look updated. It’ll be interesting to see further developments, and if they open up advertising to other companies outside of the TUI group.
What do you think of the new design?

Definitely an improvement in terms of usability, but as you say it was desperately poor before. Still… orange and navy blue? And the font on the logo is icky. To use a technical term.

I liked your comment about advertising outside TUI, and the way I know TUI they will not allow external ads, their main purpose is to keep their clients rotating internally, same they do with their low cost airlines., keep up the good work, Reem Greiver

I’m not the biggest fan of the colour scheme but it’s bright and appealing and our audience seem to like it. Obviously we have other plans for the future to improve it.
Also on the advertising point then the vast bulk of all advertising is non TUI group (Thomas Cook & Expedia throughout the site)

I think there’s room for improvement especially the logo and colours but it does what it says on the tin.

@ Nathan, I agree the logo is “icky” but why run the risk of upsetting regular users. I know when the site was down for a few days, I was inundated with emails from regular users, asking why the site was down, so there’s an obvious following.
@ Peter, Thanks for being honest about the colour scheme, I have to agree, but then why change something that’s worked well in the past. Interesting to hear about advertising non TUI group companies, and please keep me informed of any developments.

Just to be 100% clear - when TUI bought the site last year there was non TUI advertising on it (MyTravel brands, Thomas Cook, Expedia, Last Minute & more). At no point have we removed non TUI brands only added to them, if you go on to the site now you will an Expedia MPU on the homepage and a Thomas Cook banner running throughout the site. The strategy is to always work with third party brands and always will be.

Thanks for clarifying that Pete. I’ve just been on the site and could see the Expedia and Thomas Cook ads. Interesting you don’t have any reviews for the UK yet, especially since the government are wanting more of us to holiday at home.

I like it.
Never visited the old site but I like that its simple to use.
I think you have to remember that we aren’t all computer literate.

@ Rohan
Good point about levels of computer/internet experience. I’d like to see more travel companies use consumers to provide feedback before new sites or upgrades go live.
