Travel Rants has today received a number of emails from a few consumers asking why they are not able to use the Ryanair website despite Ryanair’s early than expected website upgrade over the weekend. One consumer mentions that the site is slow even though it has been upgraded.

A few consumers have mentioned that when they click on the ‘select and continue’ button after they have chosen a flight, the site delivered an error message “An error has occurred, please try again, if the error persists contact the airline” I’ve yet to confirm these complaints as I am waiting for the site to load.

the slowness may not be to do with the upgrade but the number of users attempting to buy the 5 million flights included in the sale.

Yep Kev, I just added an update. Wasn’t part of the upgrade to deal with the increase in consumers using the site though? If so, maybe they underestimated? Maybe the upgrade was rushed through. If I receive any more emails I’ll update this post.

Doesn’t load for me neither. Not even the homepage. I’ve just tried. What was the point in them taking the site down at the weekend.

Yes, I have had problems all day trying to use the site. If it doesn’t work tonight I am giving up and will go elsewhere.

Darren I can confirm problems on the Ryanair site. It is very slow. Funnily my friend used it without any problems.

Update from Ryanair:
The new Ryanair.com website is now up and running. However, due to phenomenal demand some customers are experiencing some delays during the booking process.
We are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible and ask that customers bear with us during this time.

Still having problems. I have given up. Ryanair have lost my custom this time. I will use them again but I need to book our flight and you can only be patient for so long.

[...] A recent example. Ryanair changed their reservation system over the weekend. Apparently it hasn’t gone exactly to plan (although I don’t know what the plan was, obviously). I have had people comment on this blog about Ryanair’s poor website performance since the upgrade…. and there has been some chatter on consumer blogs about it (see Travel-Rants) [...]

What a joke eh? We aren’t shopping in the sale as someone mentioned earlier. We are actually looking for a flight to visit sick relative in Shannon. We have booked with another airline as we could not wait for Ryanair to provide a working website.

Still waiting.. 29 hours and counting I wonder if Ryanair will extend the sale
