If you’ve visited my Facebook profile you’ll believe me when I say that I don’t look 34 but hey age is just a number isn’t it? When I reached thirty I set myself a goal to visit ten destinations before I reached forty and with another six years to go am I on course?

Ten Destinations’ I want to visit before I’m 40!

The list in no particular order:

1. Auckland or Wellington
2. Sydney
3. New York
4. Toronto
5. Cape Town
6. Prague
7. Oslo
8. Lima
9. Buenos Aires
10. Shanghai

Family and friends laugh at me when I tell them that I have a travel plan and intend to visit New York & Toronto in 2008, Cape Town in 2010, Lima and Buenos Aires in 2012 and finally Shanghai and Auckland/Wellington in 2013.

Do you have any crazy travel plans or travel goals your aiming for?

We have plans, for 2010, to return with our girls to Paris and Provence. We spent 2 weeks (1 in each) there last year, when my oldest was 2.5 (before the baby was born).

We have crazy plans to take both around the globe for 6 months or so, when they are 12 and 9 (or something like that). We envision spending 2-3 weeks in 12-15 places and circle the Earth.

My travel plans: Bhutan in 2008, Capetown in 2009, and St. Petersburg in 2010. At my age, I think that’s as far ahead as I should plan.

St. Petersburg, now there’s somewhere I’d love to visit.

The only plans the wife and I have is a long weekend break to Slovenia in February.

Don’t EasyJet fly to Slovenia Rohan? If I remember correctly, the capital city is Ljubljana and it’s an up and coming city - think Prague 7 years ago.

Why don’t you come down to NZ in 2011; the Rugby World Cup will be on.

Craig, that seems a good enough reason than any! 2010 is the football world cup, and if England doesn’t qualify, it looks like my plans will change!

A travel goal I’m aiming for is taking the Transibirian railway from Moscow to Beijing, continue to Thailand through China, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Fly to Australia from Singapore or Malaysia. From there travel to New Zealand, fly to South America, travel through Central America, Mexico, USA (perhaps Canada) and then return back to Europe. I have the plan, now I just need the time and money to do it :)

Wow that sounds like an amazing travel plan Erica! I’m not sure how easy it is to work when you travel nowadays, but it’s easier the younger you are.

Being over 30 I can no longer get a working holiday permit for Australia and NZ.

I’d recommend working as you go where-ever possible. Those work and travel visas for NZ and Aussie are magic.

If you can get one, I just read a good article on working in wineries in NZ and I wrote on travelling NZ here. Give yourself at least a month each for Aussie and NZ - Jan/Feb is best for NZ and (I think) later is a little cooler in Aussie.

You might have guessed I’m a kiwi :)

Craig do they let oldies in like me though :(

heheh

They’ll let you in, but you won’t be able to get a working travel visa.

You must “Be at least 18 and not more than 30 years old.” Sorry Darren!

Thanks for the tips Craig!

Luckily I live in one of your top destinations: Cape Town. Unless your a football fan I wouldn’t recommend coming down in 2010, this place is going to be mayhem… on the other hand if your a footy man then this is the place to be.

Green Point stadium is going to be hosting 9 matches including one of the semi-final games.
