The latest travel rants poll was in my opinion quite an interesting result. I asked the question, do you trust holiday brochures, and 79% of voters said no and 21% yes. There are two reasons why I personally don’t pick up a brochure anymore; 1) the environment and 2) the internet

I asked the question though because of an issue I had on holiday in Crete. On the Olympic holidays website and brochure the pictures of the apartments were of a hotel over the road, and not of the actual apartment complex.
The photographs on most review sites are provided by the travel operator but thankfully Trip Advisor allows you to upload your own photographs. I recommend travellers do just that when they return home from their holiday.
We also shared the pool with the hotel, which wasn’t mentioned. The owner closed the pool area off on the day we arrived and as you can imagine there’ were a few unhappy holidaymakers. To be fair to Olympic Holidays they dealt with the complaint excellently, and the representative contacted the owner, but he didn’t back down.
It didn’t spoil our holiday as the beach was 2 minutes walk away. I’ve emailed Olympic Holidays a few accurate photographs of the apartment complex, and they have said that they will update their website and brochures next year.
Hat’s off to Olympic Holidays for their excellent customer care.

Like you I use the internet to research the accommodation and resort. Brochures are just to fake, with their blue skies etc.
