The internet is a wonderful place where you can learn, communicate and help other travel consumers make an informed decision on the type of holiday, hotel or even down to which company they use to book their holiday.

Travel podcasts that help plan your holiday

When I take short trips I like to research the destination, how to get around, and what attractions to visit. Earlier in the year I downloaded a podcast for my trip to Oslo, and found it invaluable.

What’s a podcast?

Basically, anyone can create an audio file which is downloaded on to your MP3 player or iPod and can be listened to on your travels. The airlines are reducing luggage allowances so no more heavy travel guides.

In the New Year I’ll be launching the Travel Rants Podcast. You’ll have the opportunity of hearing my dodgy Yorkshire accent. If you have a podcast that you’d like me to promote then contact me and I will mention it here.

Great resources when you are on the move. I was actually looking for something like that.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your kind recommendation of the Nile Cruise Podcast. I have really enjoyed creating the episodes and have had great feedback from listeners.

I’ve just returned from a 5 day trip to Kenya where I enjoyed a 3 day Safari and also took part with Virgin Holidays in painting a dormitory at a school on the Masai Mara. I recorded a whole bunch of audio files that I’m going to use to create a Podcast about Kenya safari holidays to use on our Kenya holidays website. Just as we have done with the Nile cruise site.

I’ve enjoyed so many travel podcasts myself, especially the Amateur Traveler Podcast that I just felt compelled to try and create one myself.

Great to hear that your starting the Travel Rants Podcast and I really look forward to hearing it. We must get together and create a joint podcast when your ready.

Thanks,

Colin

I have always wanted to go to Eygpt, but we don’t want to go on a cruise.

Rohan,

There are lots of flights to Egypt, both to Cairo and Luxor and to the Red Sea resorts and its’ easy to get your travel agent to arrange transfers and hotel accommodation in any of those cities or areas. Great place to visit.

Colin, let me know when you get the Kenya podcast off the ground, I’d be interested in listening to that.

Hi Darren,

Will do. I took a “Zoom H2″ audio recorder with me and managed to record a lot of sound files. Things like our Safari driver telling us about the vaious animals and the “chief” of the local Masai village showing us around.

We also painted a new dormitory at the local Masai school and recorded conversations with the pupils, etc. So hopefully I can put together an interesting first Kenya podcast.

I’ll let you know as soon as its’ up.

Colin

Good initial list. There are about a dozen of our travel podcasters that have created the Travel Podcast Network. You can check out the itunes page to see all the shows. There are some really good things happening!
