Well folks, my last blog post until I return from my holiday. I’m travelling to Crete, Santorini and a few of the smaller Greek islands around there. I’m looking forward to relaxing, drinking ice cold Mythos beer, and take tons of pictures and a few videos.

Adio! I'm off to Crete

For the first time I am leaving my mobile phone at home – usually I end up with a massive phone bill because either people call me [and I pay for the call] or I end up texting people which again costs a fortune.

I’m paranoid, I must have checked the spelling of my name on the tickets, that the passport is in my hand luggage, that my Euros are safe, and that my most vital piece of equipment is packed – my iPod which I have just updated with a few podcasts on Crete and Santorini.

So adio [Greek for goodbye – I hope!] and I’ll try and blog whilst I am away if I find a web café.

Re leaving your phone at home - if you have a European phone, you can buy a cheapo SIM card at your destination country and pop it in there, and your calls will be cheaper as you can just buy minutes as you go along. It can get confusing for those you’re calling and texting, but I’ve found it’s worth it. I actually have a crap phone that I use for trips like that. Just a thought!

Firstly, I am sure you will have a fantastic time during your holidays around the Greek islands. Santorini and Crete are two very amazing islands. Crete in particular is extremely beautiful, though you need at least a week there to travel around the various regions and experience it properly.

As for the phonecalls back home, you can easily pick up a telephone card from the kiosks there, which you can use to call with. They dont cost much more than a couple of Euros, and they are used in all the public phones you will find.

Have a great time, and enjoy yourself.

Yassou Darren

I could have arranged a Greece Travel jetPack for you Darren which would have come complete with a local sim card…so you could have taken your phone abroad and saved money…

Hope you have a good one.

Look forward to reading about your trip.
