Earlier in the week I blogged about the rumours that TUI UK had acquired Holidays Uncovered. Well after my snooping around on the internet it became apparent the rumours were more than rumours.

Update on Sale of Holidays Uncovered to TUI Travel

For further information and an update on this story, please visit this article on the Travolution website. It is a quick blog post today folks as I am off on a real ale pub crawl tonight so normal service will resume tomorrow.

To Quote
“TUI Travel refused to comment on the deal after the Travel Rants blog last week highlighted speculation amongst some industry insiders about a possible change in ownership for the site.”
Perhaps I should have named Darren “Secret Squirrel” Kev :-)

Do you think it will be as popular as Trip advisor?

Darren Cronian | 12 October, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Yvonne, good question.

Difficult to say until we see the new look site.

Everyone I speak to about holidays knows about Trip Advisor, even those that are not internet saavy or haven’t booked holidays online, so it’ll be a tough job building a brand like Trip Advisor.

Hi
I came across this website when I was trying to find out why I can’t access the Holidays Uncovered website anymore. I’m now guessing it’s because of the take-over by TUI UK? Could anyone recommend an independent website for holiday reviews that isn’t connected to a travel company please? We’ve booked to stay in a hotel in Calis Beach, Turkey in July 08 and would like to see some honest reviews!

Hi Debi,

Well, for travel advice and tips you should bookmark this blog http://www.travel-rants.com ;)

As for independent travel reviews, great point, both trip advisor and holidays uncovered are now own by travel operators and agencies so I would recommend

http://www.realholidayreports.com/
http://www.trivago.co.uk

Hope this helps Debi.

Note: Those looking for the holidays uncovered website. It appears to have been down for the past week, I am looking into this matter now, and I will write about it as soon as I have more information.

Cheers!

Darren

p.s. in the meantime bookmark Travel Rants http://www.travel-rants.com

Update:

http://www.holidaysuncovered.com seems to be working. I am not sure why the .co.uk version is not working at the moment but I will let you know as soon as it is.
