In the pub last night I bumped into a friend that I haven’t seen for ages, anyway, she has just arrived back from Ibiza to find that her house was burgled. Personally, I think the thieves must have known she was away, so I asked her if she had put her home address on her luggage tag when departing.

The response was yes – now it could of being an opportunist, bad timing or it could have being a member of staff at the airport who noticed the address on her luggage.
We will never know but the lesson to learn here folks is never add your home address on your luggage until you are departing your holiday destination.

Darren, what the hell were you doing in the pub? Shouldn’t you be at home blogging?

Where’s the most unusual place you have written from?
Darren Cronian | 21 September, 2007 at 1:51 pm
HH, yes I read an article about Facebook users who were getting burgled because they had their home address on their profile, and had mentioned in a group that they were going on holiday. The same goes with bloggers, every time I go on holiday, I mention it on my blog.
It would be very easy to find my home address, even though it’s not published on the blog.

Rohan, I haven’t to be honest. I’ve blogged from a web café wherever I have been on holiday!

I was approached by a company saying they were toying with the idea of a system whereby they offered travellers the choice of “buying” a return address (instead of their home address) to place on their luggage labels. The “address” would be a computer generated code, “CM4657″ or similar.
If their baggage went astray then the luggage, when located” would be returned to the company’s offices firstly and they would then return them to your home so at no time would your address appear.
It was a cheap service. £2.50 each time or similar.
Dont’ know the fine details but I thought it sounded good in theory.
What does anyone else think?
Colin

I think it sounds like a good idea Colin.
What’s the name of the company offering this service?
Colin Maddocks | 25 September, 2007 at 8:32 am
Darren,
I’ll get the details from the guy who called me. The idea was still on the drawing borad and they were “sounding me out” as a working travel agent to see if I thought it was feasible.
I thought it sounded a pretty good idea as long as it was cheap and could be sold “online” as well as being recommnded by travel agents, etc.
I wonder if anyone else thinks its’ a good idea?
Colin
