I was just about to switch off the laptop for the evening when the Travolution newsletter sneaked through with an interesting story for football fans. I’m a Leeds United supporter [no laughing please!] and intend to go to a few away games this season so this is a very useful travel website for me.

MatchHotels.com uses mapping technology so fans can identify how close hotels are to specific grounds. You can search by team name, star rating, distance from stadium, and number of nights accommodation required.
The results appear quickly, and displays information on the hotel and you can then book online through one of the hotel partners including LateRooms, Superbreak, and Active Hotels.
What I’d like to see is some user generated content in the form of hotel reviews, but I can see this becoming a popular website for football fans.

Play table football and win accommodation at an away game of your choice!

thanks for the mention, DC.

This is more like it - a useful Travel 2.0 style site.
Not sure I’d want to see ‘user’ generated content in way of reviews but this is certainly a step in right direction. Clever name too, as gives scope for other sports.
Not sure I like the design but nonetheless, it’s a refreshing departure from the breed of Trip[insert_buzzword_here] sites.
Leeds Utd should call it a day and join a table footy league, or better still, fantasy football!
I see Ridsdale has landed on his feet ![]()

Thanks for the write-up Darren - glad you like it. We will be adding more suppliers to the site over the coming months (currently compare 6) to give more availability and prices to travelling fans.
Hope you have entered the foosball competition!!

Having travelled down to Swindon last night to Watch Charlton Athletic play, I’m glad I didn’t look for the nearest Hotel to The County Ground !!! It was hard enough finding the nearest Pub for away supporters. However rather than suffering the usual Pukka ( or is that Puka !!) Pies and Dodgy things called beef burgers we did find a row of extremely good Kebab Shops ( Must be a turkish influence near to the stadium)
Useful guide Darren and other Footie fans can be found here for all 92 League Clubs.

Great Idea!
Id like to see Rugby added to the site next.
Lee Ive not been to a game in the past 2 years that has decent food.

Rohan, Jamie Oliver is working on it - his next big project, which I’m sure will be Pukkaah!
I went to Brisbane Road a couple of years back and really fancied a hot dog - hadn’t had one in years and was really looking forward to it. Queued for ages. When it was my turn they’d run out of finger rolls. But don’t worry they said, cutting it in half and stuffing the pieces in a burger bun! Amazing!
Not quite the same I said - it’s no longer a hot dog, gimme a burger instead. Their chirpy mood swiftly changed - they look really put out as if I’d just threatened to wipe out their entire family, which would be my normal modus operandi but since I was in a good mood I let them off!
No-one tries to sell me a sausage in bun masquerading as a flipping hot dog.

Ha Ha love it Gary.
Reminds me of shopping in Morrisons. Amonst our shopping we had bought a French Baguette, the Girl Scanned it then couldn’t decide how to pack it, so just Broke it in half in front of us and shoved it into a bag.
Not quite the same is it. Can thoroughly recommend the Swindon Kebab shops though, made a nice change from the usual crap food at football stadiums.

I’ll be sampling the a la carte menu at Elland Road this afternoon, washed down with a nice cold beer [or two]
Garri | 18 August, 2007 at 10:08 am
Lee, funnily enough, that’s exactly what I do with my French loaves!
Darren, what constitutes as a la carte at Elland Road these days? Just gimme the cold beers ![]()

Probably the same as St James, a dodgy steak pie.
Leeds are doing well and I am sure I speak for a lot of football fans when I say it’ll be great to see them back in the Premiership.

Nice site, we have always used footballhotels.co.uk - I love the pay at the hotel part of it- stops no ends of rows with the tight wads in the group.
They do rugby on that site as well.
Talking of matchday fayre had a lovely chicken balti pie at Walsall on Saturday -yum!
Ben | 29 August, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Thanks Carver… MATCHhotels refers users to same suppliers as footballhotels (plus 4 more) so you have the option of paying on checkout with MATCH too.
We don’t do rugby though, not yet anyway!!
Ben | 15 October, 2007 at 6:29 pm
MATCHhotels today added football stadiums in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
No other football travel site has the same extensive coverage of these 4 countries! The latter stages of the Champions League competition and places where it will take place are now all covered, for example:
Stade de France hotels
Nou Camp hotels
Bayern Munich
and lots more!! ![]()
