I know I can do more to help the environment and offset carbon emissions from my flights, in fact we can all help by contributing to offsetting companies, who use this money for projects to reduce carbon emissions, but how do we know that this money is being spent properly?

Carbon Offsetting Does it Really Help?

The other day I read a really good article on CNN Travel which highlights four questions that you should ask Carbon offsetting companies before contributing your hard earnt cash. We’ll never find out if the air passenger duty increase is being used to help improve the environment, so I don’t want to waste more money contributing to some scam.

Has anyone contributed to carbon offsetting companies, and do you think these projects really do help the environment. I have to admit I lack knowledge about carbon offsetting, and global warming, but I’d like to help through this travel blog.

How can we find out what the government is doing with the money we pay for the air passenger duty?

I have no idea Sarah.

Does anyone know if you can access this information?

Like you Darren I have often wondered where this money goes to.

It would be easy for someone to set up a carbon offsetting company and say the money is used to work on a project in a specific country. How do we know the money isn’t going into someone elses pocket.

Good question.
