I know why they chose London for the 2012 Olympics, not because it’s home to people from many nationalities, but because it has a damn good public transport system. I know it’s rare for me to compliment transport in UK city, but I am impressed.

Why they chose London for 2012 Olympics

Gob smacked event #1

I crawled out of the airport, half asleep, and headed to the tube, to take me to the next stop in Hatton Cross, when one of the ticket conductors looked at me and said “Alwreett Geezer, you want the fee bus over there!” I laughed thinking he was joking, and realised by his expression that he wasn’t, so off I headed to the bus to catch my free bus to the tube station

Gob smacked event #2

After throwing my bags into the hotel room, and sprinting, yes, sprinting back to Hatton Cross, to catch a bus to my training course venue just outside Heathrow, I got on and rummaged around for some change to be told that the bus was free.

My jaw dropped to the ground, and this rather nice London girl nearly had to pick it up off the ground! This has meant, that for three days in London, other than the flight, I have not had to pay a penny out and claim any transport expenses, work are going to be so proud of me.

Corr Blimey am I just lucky or is this normal in London?

Aaah. That’s the Heathrow Freezone for you. The rest of London isn’t quite so cheap and convenient :0)

That said it only costs £2 to get the X26 bus from Travel Weekly Towers in Sutton all the way to Heathrow…

The underground is amazing. Very reliable, and that’s probably one of the reasons why London got the 2012 games.

Thanks Nathan.

I wasn’t aware of the Heathrow Freezone, it was great, and very reliable.

Rohan,

I agree, but I can see problems building all of this stadia and olympic village in time for 2012. Have they started building it yet? It’s already nearly 2008!
