You have to feel sorry for the travel industry, it’s probably one of the worst hit when there’s bad weather, wars and conflicts, or when there’s a terrorist attack home or abroad. I have this attitude that terrorism isn’t going to stop me from travelling – many would call me foolish, but in my eyes, there are winning if we have any doubts about going on holiday.

Being sensible though you should always make sure before you visit any country that you visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s country guides which give up-to-date information on the destination, including crime figures, dangerous hot-spots and contact information for local consulates.
If you are travelling in the next week, then it’s important to check the BAA website, the airport website and/or the airline’s website to ensure that there are no changes to security at your departure or arrival airport.
We all work hard for our holiday, so have fun but keep safe.

Whilst terrorists may not be stopping me from travelling either, I’ll tell you what is: higher taxes and rising interest rates!

Good point Garri.
Rumours afoot that the interest rates are due to increase again today.

I’d always take the FCO advice with a big pinch of salt - they tend to be very conservative (you’d hardly go anywhere if you listened to them too closely), and a lot of the advice is pretty outdated. It is often also politically motivated: if bad things happen in the US, for example, the warnings are a lot tamer and shorter-lived than if it’s somewhere with which we are not so closely allied. The main reason I find the advice useful is to see which places won’t be covered by travel insurance…

Well, i’d believe more what the FCO would say about a country than anyone else, sorry and all that.
