Yesterday, I was supposed to be going to the Twenty20 Yorkshire Vs Lancashire cricket match at headingley, but it was rained off. I’ve never seen it rain like that before, and it got me thinking this must be good news for travel companies offering holidays abroad.

With no distractions like the Football World Cup and wet weather in the UK, this will mean a sudden rush to the travel agents to pick up a last minute deal. Don’t let the thought of a cheap holiday make you loose your head though and book a holiday without researching the accommodation and destination.
No matter how good the deal is do you really want to have a nightmare holiday because the accommodation is poorly run or rundown? Worst still the holiday resort describes itself as offering excellent gym, swimming pool and facilities but really it has a rowing machine and paddling pool.
Make sure you visit sites like Trip Advisor, Holiday Watchdog, and ask questions on holiday forums like the Travel Supermarket travel forums and Yahoo Answers. Taking ten minutes to do a bit of research on the internet can save you from having a nightmare holiday experience.

Early indications from many holiday companies is that business is flat this summer. Overall it is not a good market at present…

I suppose that’s because of the interest rate increasing and public spending down, but maybe consumers are leaving it to the last minute to see if they will get a better deal.
I’m looking for a holiday in October, and for the 1st time I’m waiting nearer to October before booking it because I know I’ll probably get a better deal.

[Despite this week] weather has been good in recent summers in the UK. Holidays are expensive, generally.
Interest rates are beginning to have an effect, but will do more so in a few years time when those currently on fixed rate mortgages feel the pinch when their deals run out.

If you go into or call a travel agent ask them to check the accommodation for you.
For decades travel agents have had an independent review of accommodation called Gazetteers, these cost travel agents hundreds of pounds but give a neutral honest review of the property.

Two years back we asked the agent for advice on a hotel, they said that the only information they have is in the brochure. I checked the hotel on a few sites and it had a bad write up.
They were not helpful and thats why we book our own holidays now.

Everyone runs around looking for a late deal, and they book online, and what happens. They spell the name wrong, and end up having to pay an admin fee to change the booking.
How do I know this.
Cos it happened to me
