I know its six month off, until the London World Travel Market, but the hotels are already filling up, and I want to be organised this year, and get into a hotel nearer Excel. Last year I stayed at a hotel near Victoria, which was pretty much run-down, was over an hour journey in peak time to get to Excel.

I thought it would be a good idea to organise a night-out, if a small group of you were interested. So, if you’re attending the Exhibition, and would like to meet up with a small group of travel addicts, then let me know and if I get enough interest, I’ll organise it.

I plan to attend the WTM this year so it would be good to meet up. Anybody know of any cheap but not too awful hotels in near Excel?

Hi Darren
I have been there a couple of years ago.
For me it is a 5 hours drive over by car via Calais and The Chunnel (or P&O or Sealink ), but also a 5 hours drive with my boat which I can tie up next to Excel…… Am still dreaming to do that once why not this year…well I keep on dreaming:-)

When we went a few years back stayed at The Custom House Hotel, Docklands. Great Value and opposite Excel with good links in the evening to go to Canary Wharf for some great eateries.
Check it out and you can book via this link

Hotel code is 297

Thank you Kevin.
Darren, will you be going to the Destination show?

I’m thinking about going to the destinations show next year. I wish I had known about it earlier in the year.

Debbie, yes, now I know about the show, I will go, it’ll be good to mingle with consumers!

Hi, the best way to go for WTM 2007(or for that matter any big event) is to look for hotels NOT near the event location. The reason being - hotels are smarter than all of us combined, and they hike the rates around event dates much before you start thinking! To confirm have a look at any hotel website near ExCel for WTM dates.
So, better option is to look for adjoining areas and find good hotel deals early i.e. before the crowd spills over from event location hotels. It’s a fact esp. for London where the transport is good esp. to ExCel in this case. So, why bother with costly ExCel hotels if you can find something better 1-4 tube stations from ExCel.

Extra tip: try a Google search for “discount hotels near world travel market” to start with. Check out some deals and book it before it’s gone!
