I’m finally back home – a lot to blog about my latest travel experiences but just quickly and since I am on the topic of travel tips a few weeks back I asked friends to give me one tip to help travellers and here’s what they came up with:

- Don’t go on holiday and leave your brain behind
- Read about your destination before you go to pick up tips about crime etc.
- When travelling alone don’t walk down dimly lit streets
- Print maps of local cybercafés to contact family or friends easily
- Rent a bicycle to get around your destination easily
- Use a cash machine in the open and attached to a bank
- Spend a few hours walking around getting to know your holiday destination
I wasn’t quite sure why you should use a bank machine at a bank, until I was asked what I would do if the machine eat my card. If you use a machine attached to a shop, you’ve no chance of getting that card back.
What I try and do [depending how long I am away for] is catch a bus, or some form of cheap public transport and just sit on it for 15/20 minutes to get to know where the attractions are – obviously make sure you don’t get off the bus in a quiet area, get off at a busy station or near a popular tourist attraction.
That’s it – I’ll be back tomorrow blogging about my Oslo experience.

Good tips. Sometimes its the basic you can forget, so its always good to get a reminder.

Good tips, especially about using an ATM at a bank rather than in the street on a shop etc.
