Email arrives in my inbox from US based, discount travel site Hotwire.com which I thought would be useful for those readers based in the US or holidaymakers thinking about heading to the United States this year.

Hotwire.com launched their Travel Value Index in 2006, which basically evaluates 50 U.S. markets across various categories including flights, hotels and car rental every year.
According to the Hotwire Travel Value Index, the top ten U.S. places for value holidays this year are:
Atlanta
Dallas-Fort Worth
Raleigh-Durham
Orlando-Daytona Beach
Kansas City
Denver
Los Angeles
Chicago
Cleveland
Washington D.C.
I couldn’t help but have as search myself to see if these really are budget destinations, and I was surprised to find a room in a four star hotel in Chicago for only $79, around £42 per night.
The site was very easy to use and quick at finding the best deals, hmmm I wonder if we’ll see Hotwire make a debut in the UK and European travel industry, only time will tell.
BTW. It’s my birthday today - I’m 34! ![]()

Some surprising cities there.
Especially cities we wouldn’t necessary think about visiting like Cleveland and Denver.

Debbie, the site is aimed more to US tourists, so I’m assuming these are popular spots for them. Even so, I sometimes prefer to get away to the lesser known tourist spots.
Thanks for the birthday wishes Lee. I wish you wouldn’t shout in capitals though especially when I have a hangover! ![]()
