Whoooeee it’s the weekend. I don’t know about you but it’s been a long week. I’ve a hectic week coming up with the Viking festival in York, trip to Oslo and an office move at work.

A week in Travel

Travel News for consumers

The travel world went manic this week with the news of a merger of Thomas Cook and My Travel. The merger planned for completion by June, could result in cost savings of £75m a year across the businesses.

British Airways have lost the plot and are going to charge consumers on long haul trips £120 per extra bag and there is a £60 fee per extra bag on European journeys and £30 on domestic flights.

The traditional ski holiday could become a thing of the past as climate change looks set to decimate the slopes; it was claimed by Professor Bill McGuire at London’s Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre in a report commissioned by Halifax Travel Insurance.

Travel Supermarket have launched a Top Deals of the week newsletter which will promote top offers and exclusive deals supplied by hundreds of different companies for flights, holidays, hotels and will be hand-picked by an in-house editorial team.

That’s it for this week! A week in Travel

Well Darren, you and your Hectic week and all your Travel plans going hay wire.

We have been Shortlisted as Finalists at this years Travel Agent Achievements awards in the Categories of UK innovation of the Year and the Sales and Business Categories, as well as being nominated in The Central region awards and also have been nominated for the TIPTO proprietors award. The Event is being held in London on the third of April.

Unfortunatly we are not able to attend as we shall be visiting Edinburgh for a 3 Night break. My Daughter is away on a weeks skiing in Austria and Hilary thought it would be a good idea for us to have a short break on our own.

We have booked into the Malmaison Hotel, we were quoted a Travel Industry rate of £379.00 but found it cheaper to book on line at a cost of £307.00 !!!!

When We searched Rail Fares it was crazy at looking at all of the options. Travelling from Great Malvern the first train to Birmingham doesn’t leave till after 10.00 change at Worcester to go Backwards to Cheltenham and then to Birmingham taking over 2 Hours. Ridiculous and the fare was extortianate.

Instead will get a lift to Worcester, pay a local fare to Birmingham.

On Virgin Trains found a Bargain by booking two Single FIRST CLASS returns at £70.00 each, it’s called a Value Advance fare and is a Whopping saving of £476 of the Normal First Class fare.

So anybody with tips for visiting Edinburgh would be welcome.

Funny thing is I’m lucky enough to have Visited a lot of countries around the World, but never been to Scotland before!!
