If you are a regular reader you will be aware that I am taking a trip to Oslo next week from Wednesday through to Sunday. I am really looking forward to spending four days in Norway, but I have something to admit.

Um, I rant on about how you should all plan your holiday before you jump in and book, and well I have not followed my own advice! I was so excited at the cheapness of the Ryanair flight that I booked without any hesitation, and last night I checked my flight details to find that I arrive back into the John Lennon Airport at 11.50pm.
Trains, buses, coaches are not running at this time of the night, so I would be stranded in Liverpool until 6am which is when the first coach or bus starts to run to Leeds! I had originally planned to stay a night at the Holiday Inn Express hotel near the airport on Tuesday night, and take a stress less trip to the airport terminal on Wednesday morning.
Now, I have to get a coach Wednesday morning [very early!] from Leeds to Liverpool and make my way to the airport for mid-day. Then when I get back on Sunday, I am going to stay at the Holiday Inn Express and get the coach back to Leeds Monday mid-day.
So there is a lesson to learn here folks.
Check your return flights back to the UK [or wherever you reside] and make sure you can get back home, otherwise you will be stranded or have to book a hotel. My only hope now is that I do not get stuck in traffic on the way to Liverpool, Wednesday morning.

To top it off I originally thought I was flying from Tuesday to Saturday, and realised last week that this wasn’t the case!! I booked the flight and hotel back in November, so another tip is check your paperwork and emails before you travel!

I find that very early or late departures/arrivals of Ryanair flights a problem. I would like to fly to Bergamo in northern Italy from Newcastle but the flight arrives in Bergamo at midnight, car hire desk shut, no service buses so I’d have to pay for a taxi into city centre. It can certainly make the cheap flight not so cheap if you end up paying for overnights at airport hotels. It also means that you can’t use public transport to get to and from airports. If you do have a car you can pay more to park it at the airport than you pay for your flight!
Enjoy Oslo.

Karen, youv’e got me wanting to go to Bergamo after reading your guest blog article. I’m just anti-Ryanair at the moment, so I’ll have to find another airline that flys there!
