The Department of Transport has provided travel advice for air passengers during the Christmas holidays. Wrapped gifts are not exempt from the security measures and it is possible that passengers may be asked to unwrap any presents they are carrying by the airport security staff.

Reminder for Air Passengers over the Holidays

For this reason, passengers are advised to travel with their presents unwrapped. This includes any presents packed inside luggage that will be checked into the hold.

These security requirements apply not just in the UK, but at all airports in the EU as well as those in the US and Canada. They are effective on all flights to all destinations. Passengers should raise any queries they have with their airlines and airports in advance, either by calling or going to their websites.

All the details above are also explained in full on the Department for Transport’s website.

Cheers Dazza. Helpful because my sis is coming from Spain this weekend, so I’ll remind her to unwrap the presents.

My sis wrapped her presents, but had to unwrap them before she departed, no problems with security though at the airports.
