It’s nearly Christmas time, and what better destination to visit at Christmas, than Christmas Island. No, not Lapland, there really is an island located in the Indian Ocean, and (only) 1,400ish miles from the coastline of Perth, Western Australia.

Visit Christmas Island at Christmas Time

Christmas Island is home to 1,600 residents, with the majority of residents living in the capital, Flying Fish Cove. The local language is English, but surprisingly the ethnic origin is split between Chinese [70%], European [20%] and Malay [10%] and the local currency is Australian Dollar.

It’s nearest neighbour is Indonesia, but receives tourists from all over Asia, Australia and Europe, and they are flights from Singapore, Perth or the Cocos Islands, with Austasia or National Jet Airlines, but check the schedules because the service is irregular.

Tourists flock to Christmas Islands for nature and the wildlife as over 63% of the Island is a National Park and diving, snorkeling, and fishing are popular activities. I visited Australia in 2004, and didn’t get to see the Western coast of Australia. I’d love to visit Perth and then spend a week or two relaxing, scuba diving and snorkeling on Christmas and Coco Islands.

Sounds and looks great. I never knew such an island existed.
