Good news for iPod owners with the news that Apple is working with six airlines who plan to offer iPod seat connections to power and charge the devices, and to show video stored in the iPod on a seat back display.

The airlines are Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United. The services will be available in mid-2007. I am also reliably informed that Apple is working with Panasonic, to tempt more airlines to offer iPod services on board.

Now, that would be really useful - if only Delta and Continental Airlines actually had “seat back” screens on their trans-Atlantic aircraft!!

I have a 30GB video iPod, but to be honest, I have only used the video feature once, and not sure I could be bothered to download videos on to the iPod. Interesting idea though, and a superb marketing opportunity for Apple.

Great, Ryanair allowing mobile phones, and now these airlines, allowing iPods, tittering away in the background. Don’t these people realise we want to go on to a plane, and relax, watch a movie, not have to put up with mobile phones and ipods.

Another opportunity for your senses to be subjected to uninvited media. After all when you are 18 inches away you inadvertantly get to see what the person next to you is watching! That may not always be so good.
