Well I’ve been bitten by the travel bug, and I’m already planning my next trip which will be to Oslo, Norway in February 2007. I would prefer to fly from Leeds & Bradford International Airport, but it appears flights to European destinations are limited after October with Jet2.com, which is a shame – not all of us want to travel in the Summer.

Online Booking Experience to Oslo

So, I had a look at EasyJet and Ryanair for flights and found a flight with Ryanair flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Oslo, Norway, for a bargain £45 including airport taxes. Next, I found a cheap hotel (I’m not fussed with 5 star accommodation – even if I could afford it!) on e-bookers.com, at the Quality Sleep Hotel, in the centre of Oslo.

The biggest challenge, will be getting the Torp Express coach from Torp Sandefjord Airport, which takes around 2.5 hours to Oslo Bus station, and costs approximately £30 return. If you miss the bus, then you have to hope that there’s room on the next coach – sounds fun.

The trip cost me just less than £200 for 4 nights, which I thought was good, for a city break, and took me less than 10 minutes to book online - but now I have to find some woolly jumpers with temperatures of minus 1 during the day and minus 9 in the evening.

I won’t be consuming many beers neither with prices in Oslo around £7 a pint – which is a bit extreme considering it cost me 39 pence for a pint in Prague, but it’s all part of the Norway travel experience I guess.

Hi, have a great time in Oslo; we really enjoyed it a few years back.

The Torp bus is fine, but use the airport bathroom before you get on it. The onboard bus toilet was frozen and unuseable when we visited in March, which was tough on the bladder for a longish bus ride.

Get the Oslo Pass through the tourist bureau to get into the major attractions: we loved the Viking Ship Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum (with the original balsa raft) and the outdoor Folk Museum (even in snow.)

For food, Dolly Dimples Pizza is not too expensive (but yeah, you may need to skip the expensive beer.)

Best wishes, Sheila

It sounds great Shiela.

I’ve read a few nightmare stories about the Torp Express line, but the service seems regular, and they guarantee you a seat on the coach, if you fly with Ryanair.com so that’s good.

Oslo is a superb city.

If your prepared to eat snacks then it’s not expensive - when your eating out in restaurants this is when it hits the pocket.

Wow you lucky thing! :)

[...] Planned in for February 2007 is a trip to Oslo, Norway, but I need some inspiration from you all to help me choose two other destinations, that will fit within my measly travel bloggers salary. So readers where would you like me to visit and write about, and where have have you travelled to in 2006? [...]
