A Bloggers view of Travel Agents

I’ve been blogging about travel for 19 months, and I was very anti travel agency at the start. On one occassion, I found that the travel agent was very commission motivated, and wasn’t prepared to give me the best price – the choice was limited and I found that travel agencies were stuck in the ice age.

I’m man enough to admit that my opinion has changed after witnessing how hard independent travel agents work to please the consumer – it’s great to finally see travel agents embracing the internet with open arms, rather than having the mentality that the internet is their enemy.

Times are changing – the Digital Age is most certainly here, and as consumers we have to make sure that travel agents are giving us choice, and are not limited to offering package holidays to the Costa’s in five star hotels.

An example of how travel agencies have changed.

In July I wrote a blog article to help me find a holiday, and Lee from Select World Travel, took up that challenge, and with a list of requirements, helped me book my relaxing beach holiday.

The holiday was perfect and I fell in love with the island of Kos – but it could have been so different, and I could of being blogging about my nightmare holiday from hell, and I’m sure Lee agrees that he was worried.

This is the difference though – now travel agencies are realising the power of the internet, not just for marketing their business and providing consumers with what they want, but they realise that the internet could also have a negative impact on their business if they don’t provide a first class service.

Oh, what a difference a year makes..
