Well, only 2 weeks until my holiday and just over four weeks to the London World Travel Market at Excel in London. I’m so excited about both events, especially, my first visit to the World Travel Market, which is going to be a superb experience - more on that later.

Hotel Recommendations for the World Travel Market

As usual I am not organised and I’ve left it late to book a hotel in London, for what is one of the biggest events in the travel calendar. I’ve been searching, and have not yet found a hotel, which is one or two tube changes to Excel, on the Docklands, and within a travel bloggers budget, i.e. £50-£60 per night.

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations?

you could stay at my gaff in east london if we hadn’t only just moved in and not unpacked - or even considered uppacking in the next month!! :-)

How about the Travel Inn at London County Hall, across the Thames from Westminster? Not too close to Docklands but 3 tube stations are pretty close to the hotel, each with different lines to pick from. A great location (right next to the London Eye.)

how much you got to spend??

Darren Cronian | 7 October, 2006 at 5:05 pm

Thanks Shiela I will check that hotel out.

Kevin, £50-60 per night ideally - I will have just come back from my holiday, so I won’t be rolling in the money I don’t think! hah

you better try a meta search engine… one of your fine advertisers, travelsupermarket, might be a good place to start!! 50-60 in central london might be a tough one. premier travel inn at county hall is 92 quid a night.

absolutely fantastic - try Sidestep.com out. make sure you take the UK & Ireland site, if it doesn’t automatically re-direct you.

an superb example of US meta search functionality, using Ajax bars so the user can seemlessly toggle between prices for hotels, in your case, Darren.

BTW: there are quite a few for those dates…

I’m loving sidestep.com!!! Search your hotels on a map - it’s a shame its not a google map, but even so, its great to find hotels near where I want to be - Kev, which areas am I best looking at?

MM the map isn’t showing the price is £’s just in $’s even though I am on the UK and Ireland version of the site! The prices to the left are in £’s but when you search by the map they turn to $’s which is annoying! :)

Hmmm theres quite a few hotels on sidestep.com and travelsupermarket.com - I need to get to Tower Hill to catch the light railway to Custom House (Excel) so I am trying to find somewhere on the Picadilly or District lines I guess.

Tower Hill is on the circle and district lines, and both of those have tons of interchanges with other lines.

Really does depend what you want out of your stay…

Last year , We stayed at the Custom House Hotel directly opposite Excel, Handy for exhibition with Custom house DLR opposite, great for Canary wharf and restaurants in the evening. try Superbreak for Travel Industry discount.
