Since the theme today appears to be the Island of Kos (sorry Mikey!) I thought you might enjoy this photograph – what I loved about this photograph was the lonesome tree over looking the magnificent coastline.

Did you know that Kos…

… is a Greek island in the Dodecanese group of islands
… measures 40 km by 8 km, and is only 4 km from the coast of Bodrum in Turkey.
… in World War II, the island was taken over by Germany, until 1945

Exploring the Island of Kos

I also found out that the island is part of a chain of mountains from which it became separated after earthquakes and subsidence that occurred in ancient times. Interesting huh?

Did you know that Kos is also the name of a type of lettuce? So named because it is said to have originated on the Greek island of Cos (Kos)

Hippocrates, the founder of modern Medicine originated in Kos and a visit to the Asclepion , just outside of Kos Town is worth the Visit. Even today Doctors have to swear by the Hippocratic Oath.

I never heard of this place. Would like to take a whole year and just spend it in Greece and Turkey - islands alone would take months. Hunter Cashdollar
