I admit that I am a bit of a nerd, and I love technology, gadgets and how the Internet has changed how we book holidays, bank online and read the news. I’ve recently signed up to Del.icio.us a social site which allows you to add your favourite websites, and share these sites with other members, so I thought I’d share a few of my favourite websites.

I always find it difficult to know how much spending money to take on my holiday, so I do a Google search for a few restaurants and attractions in the city or town where I am staying – I then use XE.com to convert the prices of the local currency into pounds. This gives me a rough idea of how much spending money to take.
As I’ve mentioned in previous blog articles, before I book a hotel, I like to read reviews of the hotel from travellers who have stayed at the hotel – this gives me a good idea of the standard of the hotel, and information on the location – a great site for hotel reviews is Trip Advisor
When looking for package holidays, what could be more annoying than to have to visit website after website, when you can use Travel Supermarket to search for a package holiday on a number of travel agency and operator websites – it saves tons of time.
Occasionally, I might feel confident and book a flight, and arrange accommodation when I arrive at the destination, and a site I find incredibly easy to use and is superb at finding flights is Cheap Flights – search by the destination and your provided a list of special offers and low cost flight deals.
I enjoy communicating with travellers, and travel companies, and they are a ton of social networking and community websites available – my favourites are Lonely Planet Travellerspoint and IgoUGo
I couldn’t write this blog article without mentioning my favourite blogs at the moment – which include Travolution, Backpackers.com, ProBlogger and Matt Cutts – each blogger has their own writing style, full of unique content, and plenty of discussions.

Hi there - some nice choices here. So I thought I would enter into the spirit of things and share a few of my own:
http://www.virtualtourist.com is a nice travel community site with guides, planners deals etc.
http://www.hostelworld.com is good if you’re looking for, erm, hostels…
and for single lady travellers, http://www.thelmandlouise.com (note the slightly odd spelling) is a pretty good place to meet up with like-minded sorts.
And of course if you’re looking for a place for responsible travel ideas (volunteering overseas, teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) conservation, community work etc) http://www.i-to-i.com is a good place to start (okay so you can’t blame me trying for a bit of shameless self publicity!

Yes Virtual Tourist is a favourite of mine too - always a good website to read reviews of hotels and resorts.

And to be in Belize instead of Dreary Cold Great Malvern, never mind I am off to Dubai on Friday, and one of my staff is going off to Borneo on Oct 08th. It is all Work related though, not a holiday! But Belize is definatly on my Wish list hopefully for next year, and as a Charlton fan, meeting Mr E-scribbler, Andy Hunt would put the icing on the cake
