It’s been a busy day for this travel blogger – today, I received a press release from Oasis Airlines informing me that they have sold 10,000 seat tickets in the first two weeks of business, with an average of 1,100 seats sold per day.

Stephen Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, said With over 500,000 visitors and 5,000 telephone enquiries to date – Oasis Hong Kong Airlines has captured the imagination of thousands.

We have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of our first aircraft and take great pride in announcing that it landed at the Hong Kong International Airport the day before yesterday.

Now that it’s here we can complete the final steps in obtaining the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) which we have been working closely with authorities on over the last year.

We have every confidence that we will receive the AOC by the inaugural flight date – the 25th of October.

Let’s hope they do receive their Air Operators Certificate for their first flight, otherwise they will be many unhappy travellers. It would appear that Hong Kong is going to be a popular holiday destination in 2007.

I hope they do get their certificates…..have been on their site, and for 2 adults travelling on 15th Jan to 29th out of Gatwick the total is £522 including taxes. I could be tempted to book - always wanted to visit Hong Kong.

Darren Cronian | 21 September, 2006 at 9:24 pm

Me too Carol. I could see my trip to New Zealand and Australia being cheaper, if I can get a cheap flight to Asia, then a cheap flight with Virgin Blue, or Jetstar from Hong Kong to Australia.

Kevin May | 21 September, 2006 at 9:36 pm

they’ll get them - the airline will not be able to shift a plane an inch in the UK without a CAA certificate.

Bob | 22 September, 2006 at 10:20 am

Could this be a good scam though?? Get thousands of travellers to book flights, and then say that they were unsuccessful getting the certificates, and then take an age to refund the money because they are operating under Hong Kong laws.

Kevin May | 22 September, 2006 at 10:26 am

it would have to be the “scam” of the century for that to be the case…

Darren Cronian | 22 September, 2006 at 11:01 am

I agree - I can’t see that happening myself.

Beverly Lane | 23 September, 2006 at 9:39 pm

FINALLY!! I have been wanting to visit HK for a long time. I’m glad there is finally a decent low cost airlines flying this route. The fare is unbelievable. I’m going to book once I know when I can go. A scam? Absolutely Impossible! Did you see the picture of the aircraft? Looks really nice. I can’t wait to fly with them.

Darren Cronian | 23 September, 2006 at 10:03 pm

I really hope it comes through. I booked my flights last week for flying back to the UK at the end of October only to find it front page news that they look like refunding HK$10 Million. They have two weeks to get their licenses.

Fingers crossed

now if thats not a bargain …… i dont know what is…… i think the nxt one up is zoom airline doing uk to canada or paris to canada for peanuts and they plan to do NYC london. gotta go need to start packing…….

Betty Lin | 26 October, 2006 at 2:58 pm

I was one of the unhappy passengers on the 25th Oct flight back to uk. IT DIDN’T FLY !!!!!, because of the press conference, the boarding was delayed. The fly was scheduled to fly at 13:00 hours, we didn’t get on the plane till 13:30. Then we just sat on the plane. At 18:00 they then announced that they can’t fly because the russian air space had cancelled the approval. During the time we stayed on the plane, it became unbearably hot, and the staff did nothing, except, saying we can only wait. I ended up with a severe headache due to dehydration. Then when we got off the plane, the staff were running around like headless chickens. No one knew what to do. I asked to be tranferred onto the next plane bound for london, since i had to get back to start a job. I was told, that I would have to pay for another ticket, and they wouldn’t even refund my ticket. I had to become really irate, otherwise, the staff was just plain rude. After, expressing my dissatifaction in the most vocal manner, the staff then tried to get me onto another flight. Because there wasn’t just me being annoyed with the situation, finally, I was told , that they transfer me onto the virgin flight to london flying at 23:55 hours, and that I would not have to pay for another ticket. anyway , sorry about the long comment, but I wouldn’t recommend on flying oasis!

Hong Kong, October 20, 2006 – Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong’s only low fare, long-haul airline, today celebrated another milestone when the Civil Aviation Department awarded the airline its Air Operator’s Certificate after it successfully completed its proving flight on October 16. The airline is set to make its inaugural flight to London Gatwick on October 25, offering four flights per week initially.

This significant news comes on top of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines’ sale of over 18,000 tickets since it started accepting reservations in early September. In addition, the airline will offer all business and economy class tickets between Hong Kong and London at their lowest fare levels of HK$1,000 in economy class and HK$6,600 in business class one-way between October 25 and November 30 to celebrate its inaugural month.

Stephen Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, said: “We take great pride in announcing that we now have the Air Operator’s Certificate, having fulfilled all the requirements by the authorities. Passengers who may have been holding off booking their flights now have no reason at all to delay making their reservations.

“With the expected arrival of our second aircraft next month, we will increase to a daily flight starting from November 25. After London, we aim to fly to Oakland (San Francisco area) in California in the first quarter of 2007 and later to other European and North American cities including Cologne/Bonn, Milan, Berlin and Chicago, providing business and leisure travellers with highly competitive fares to a wider range of desirable long-haul destinations.”

Despite the airline’s strong record of 1,100 ticket sales sold daily, currently the incredible HK$1,000 and HK$6,600 “hot deal” tickets are still available for Christmas and Chinese New Year.

Quick booking is advised as around 80% of the tickets in this lowest price bracket have already been sold. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Grows Fleet to Five Aircraft Strong momentum underway to open up more destinations with popular Vancouver being next

Hong Kong, March 06, 2007 - Oasis Hong Kong Airlines has today finalised an agreement with ANA (All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd.) to purchase three additional Boeing 747-400s, as part of its planned fleet expansion in preparation for the launch of the airline’s new Vancouver route in the second half of 2007. This will bring the Oasis fleet to five aircraft.

Steve Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, said, “The purchase of three Boeing 747-400s marked another significant milestone in our history, getting closer to our goal of acquiring up to five aircraft a year and eventually expanding our fleet to 25 aircraft by 2010. These aircraft have been maintained in top quality condition. We look forward to the addition of these aircraft which will allow us to bring our passengers to many exciting destinations around the world in future. The expanded fleet will also greatly enhance our cargo capacity and therefore our airfreight income. Our momentum is strong and we’re on track to achieving our business goals.”

They were all previously owned and maintained by ANA and are in perfect condition. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from April 2007 and run through to the first quarter of 2008. I am sure passengers will enjoy their flights on these reliable and comfortable aircraft.”

Oasis is also pleased to announce commencement of scheduled air services to Vancouver, subject to government approval on 28 June 2007. Vancouver is a popular destination to Hong Kong people, enjoying high demand year round due to a high population of Hong Kong immigrants. And to prepare for the launch of Oasis’ second destination, the airline is also hiring 200 more cockpit and cabin crew members, soon bringing its crew size to over 400.

Ken Chad, Commercial Director of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, commented, “ We are delighted to have the opportunity to fly to Vancouver. This is a very strong point to point market, one of the strongest out of Hong kong. It’s a market where there is substantially less reliance on feeder traffic.
