If your wondering why I didn’t blog yesterday, well, I didn’t think you would want to read my drunken ramblings – I went out for a “few” drinks and a meal in Leeds. We eat at the Spice Quarter a new restaurant in the old printing press buildings that is now home to a state of the art theatre, restaurants and bars including a champagne bar.

What was unique about the restaurant is that the chef’s were stood in the middle of the restaurant – you picked up your plate, took it to the chef, and told him what you wanted, you could then watch it being cooked – the food was varied with Italian, Chinese and Italian dishes on offer.
As someone whose grown up in Leeds, I have seen the city centre transformed in the last decade, with old run down buildings knocked down and built in place state of the art apartments, and office blocks – the centre receives visitors from all of the UK – looking for the excellent nightlife and shopping that Leeds now offers.
The Old printing press buildings were derelict for years, and faces the Millennium square, which is now the focal point of the city centre, but used to be a car park! The likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Embrace, and UK’s largest outdoor ice skating rink take over the square during the Winter months – during the day the large screen broadcasts BBC Live 24 – so you can sit in the sun with your lunch and watch TV!

The Civic Theatre which overlooks Millennium square is going to be a Museum of Yorkshire, a new attraction along with the Royal Armouries Museum which moved from it’s previous home in London to attractive Leeds Granary Wharf near the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
There is life outside of London so if you haven’t visited Leeds – you should.

The countryaide is also very beautiful around Yorkshire. I have a cousin living in Beverley, North Yorkshire, and we have spent many happy weekends driving around through magical scenery, and wonderful villages.
So inkw what you mean Darren…….we rarely go to London now, unless there is a specific reason.

Well, according to the reader’s poll in Conde Nast Traveller this month, Leeds is number 5 on list of UK cities (out of 6!, not really, out of 15). London is 3 but no prizes for guessing which city is number 1.
Here’s a clue: it’s miles better
I’d put a link to the site but, despite being a good magazine, their website is shockingly bad to use.

I wish the “chiefs were stood in the middle of the restaurant” all the time – you still on the sauce?
