Sad news today that Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin has died after a freak accident in North Queensland, on the Great Barrier Reef. The guy was a maniac, but I loved his crocodile hunter series – only a few years ago I toured around North Queensland, including Port Douglas, which is not far from where he was killed by a stingray during a diving expedition off the Australian coast.

The stingray is a flat, triangular-shaped fish, commonly found in tropical waters. It gets its name from the razor-sharp barb at the end of its tail, coated in toxic venom, which the animal uses to defend itself with when it feels threatened. Attacks on humans are a rarity - only one other person is known to have died in Australia from a stingray attack, at St Kilda, Melbourne in 1945.

Oh dear…..I, too, used to marvel at the sheer bravery of the man. Hope he finds some more challenges on the “other side”
May he rest in peace!

I thought it was a joke when I first heard the story because there had been a rumor of his death a few years ago. It is a shame he is gone. He will be missed.
