According to the BBC Ryanair have announced a deal that will let passengers make calls on mobile phones and use PDA’s and Blackberries whilst in flight. This will probably increase the number of business travellers using Ryanair, but prove to be unpopular with those that dislike mobile ringtones.

Passengers will be charged a roaming fee by mobile service provider, with Ryanair taking a slice of the income after it has signed up Onair, part owned by Airbus maker EADS, to allow mobile use on all its Boeing 737 aircraft.
If it gets approved, the scheme will be introduced by the middle of next year. As a traveller I have a problem with this – whilst it is great to keep in touch with family and friends, I don’t fancy being sat next to someone on the plane, who is continuously talking, or spending 2 hours listening to the annoying ringtones.

That is all we need some “yob” calling to say “I’m on a plane”!!! This was one of the few places where you could escape the damn mobile phone.

I agree Carol. I couldn’t think of anything worse. If long haul flights introduce this then it could turn your flight into a holiday nightmare!

I’m not happy with this either; I don’t fly regularly, but I do travel by train a lot and usually experience some kind of mobile phone agony. There is nothing more annoying than being sat next to or nearby to somebody who never seems to get off the phone or insists on enabling the loudest ringtone possible. If it really gets bad I can move seats or even carriages, but where would I go on a plane?
