I’ve received an email from the makers of in-car satellite navigation systems, Navman, who inform me that they are partnering with Lonely Planet to provide travel guides within Satellite navigation systems.

Not only can you be guided to your destination but you’ll get a Lonely Planet description and picture of what to expect when you arrive. Navman will also soon introduce the NavPix system and has created hundreds of snapshots of various locations, together with up-to-date information from Lonely Planet guidebooks across European cities, including London, Milan and Madrid.
What I love about this technology is that you can actually take your own digital photos and store them on your satellite navigation device and also share this content online, so that your sat-nav system is full of information about popular destinations.
Pretty damn cool huh?

That’s truly flippin’ cool! But most travellers are going to have to wait for car rental companies to add this as a feature to their cars before they get to use it abroad.

Dave, it sure is - good point about car rentals, I had not thought about that.

It’s a good business opportunity though for a new car-rental startup that wants to appeal to leisure travellers.
