Some of my readers will know that I used to run a travel business called Worldwide Holiday Homes, which enables holidaymakers to book self catering holiday accommodation and organise their own flight, and travel insurance etc.

Flexible Travel advice updates

Whilst holidaymakers aren’t covered by ABTA, I feel personally responsible for anyone who books accommodation via the website. I regularly check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) website, for updates on travel advice to countries that I cover, to make sure that no holidaymakers are booking accommodation in dangerous destinations.

What would be really useful is if the FCO could offer a subscription service, where travel companies and holidaymakers could subscribe to information on a specific country, and be informed via their email inbox when there’s any changes.

Had I not visited the FCO site today, I would of not known that they had advised Britons against all travel to north and east Sri Lanka following armed attacks in these areas. Whilst I only offer a few holiday villas in Sri Lanka, I’d not of known about this warning unless I regularly checked the site.

Do you think that a travel advice subscription service would be useful for travellers and travel companies?

Editorial Edit:

Reply from an email sent to the FCO

We provide a subscription service. This is a free service, which can be accessed via the front page of the FCO website: http://www.fco.gov.uk just click on subscribe (top of the page to the right) and follow the instructions.

The subscription link is very small, but it is in the top right of the page - for those that missed the link like me, visit this FCO page, and thanks to Travel Advice Unit, for the very quick response!

Well, the updated the news are so important for travellers and travel companies.

So in China, travel agencies communicate the travel information intimately and also about the tourist. For example, the travel agency in Nannig can only receive the tourist to Guilin area, if they have tourists want to travel to three Gorges or Great Wall, they have to transfer the tourist to the other agencies. So the tourist market keep in good order in China. Each travel agency is in charge of appointed local area and they know the latest travel news in the local area. eg, if you want to have a trip to Guilin, a nice landscape in China, you will have to consult CITS,Guilin
