These politicians need to get a grip on reality - let’s increase air tax and stop lower paid people having the opportunity of travelling abroad. Don’t get me wrong, protecting the environment is important, and whilst I agree that we need to reduce emissions, it needs to be done in a fair way.

Taxes on air travel and “gas guzzling” cars should be raised to cut greenhouse gas emissions, says a committee of MPs. The MPs’ report criticises the Department of Transport for adopting a “fatalistic” attitude towards cutting emissions caused by increased travel.
If the government got off their arses and improved public transport then more people would use it, and less people would rely on cars to get around – what’s the fun stood at a bus stop waiting for 40 minutes, or stood at a platform waiting for a delayed train because theirs the “wrong type of leaves on the track”
The government should be embarrassed at the state of our public transport system, and compared to Asian countries like Malaysia, we are a joke – visit Kuala Lumpur, and you see less traffic, environmentally friendly forms of transport; including Monorail, Train and Bus.
Forget the prices of flights and concentrate on reducing the traffic on the roads, this will reduce greenhouse gas emissions much more than increasing the flight tickets – all this is going to do is stop people travelling abroad, and slow down the tourist industry in our own country!!

Raise Taxes to cut Greenhouse emissions, ermmmmm and just where will those taxes be spent on reducing those emissions?
I Believe Mr Blair is on holiday in Barbados at Present, Will he be holidaying in Blackpool Next year, or will that only depend on if the Casino is put there or at the Millennium dome?
Mind you, his Counterpart ,looking out for the Country in his absence, Mr Two Jags
Prescott, had the right idea for the M4 and created a Bus Lane, Yes no one would have guessed the ideal place is on the Outside Lane, Well done two Jags, it’s no wonder people are questioning your sanity!!!
And how much have the Goverment and MP’s spent themselves ( Or rather how much has the tax payer paid) this year on Air Travel around the country or to Foreign countries?
At least Mr Blair, there are responsible Tour Operators in this Country looking after the welfare of other Countries with responsible Tourism programmes, and I highly commend AITO Specialist Tour Operators for the comitment to this cause

Excuse my language, but this pisses me off beyond belief - no wonder over 50% of UK residents would like to go and live abroad! Not only do they tax us to the hill on our salaries, but then they charge tax on flights, road tax, and value added tax.
This country stinks - and yes, I am one of the 50%+ wanting to leave the country.

Good point about Mr Blair, next year surely he’ll have to get a train to Bognor Regis, and save the environment - politicians are hypocrites.

You seem environmentalists.
Well, I would admit that the importance of environment.
This October 31 to November 3, the China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning, China. China, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, in all 11countries will attend the Largest Exposition in the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. So it is a mirror to reflect China to the world. So the govenment has do a lot the improve the city. For the taxes in the airport. I would say it was much better than you have discussed. I also would say the govenment should take advantage of the taxes to serve the public.
