Good news! You can now read travel rants on your travels - laying on Bondi beach in Sydney Australia, walking over the Great Wall of China, or whilst having breakfast with Mickey Mouse in Florida, USA.

Travel Rants has gone mobile - you can now read all of my blog entries via your mobile phone or PDA. Load up your browser on your WAP phone or PDA, and type in the normal website address, and taa daa read the blog with images, and never miss a thing - its not been tested on every browser and phone so let me know if you have any problems! Have fun!
Edit:
News just in that the blog has been featured in both the San Antonio and Austin American Stateman newspapers this week for my blog guide to Prague. This is great news for the blog, as it’s further increased the number of readers in the US.
I’m having an interview with a reporter from Sydney Morning Herald next about how technology and the internet has changed travel .. then it’s next stop New York Times! Anyone else want to interview me? ![]()

Nice reply Darren, I don’t know about anyone else, and I’m not that I.T literate but I think you have bought up an interesting debate. I went to an interesting seminar some time ago in London. The Future of travel lay in Podcasting ( still got to get my head around that one) and also the ability to sent text messages, offers etc, and the speaker from Cosmos had invested heavily in this new found phenomenon ( spell check please) and it was the future, along with blogging and other formats such as Video.
So Just how far can you go to promote yourself, and what wonderful new format is going to appear in the near future?
Personally, I hate Mobile Phones, but can see the reason for them in an emergency. As for Text messages, well are they to get as bad as opening your e-mail up in the morning and having to delete 2,000 e-mails offering you everything from Viagara to providing your bank details to banks youv’e never heard of?
And getting a Text message that Charlton have just lost 1-0 to Welling, repeated several times 24 hours after the event, only rubs salt in the wounds, and affects the amount of credit on my phone.
So a responsible service to read a blog on your phone whilst on Holiday, has to be commended, but I’m not sure how many takers? It will be interesting to see your feedback.
I am on holiday in Mauritius from the 18th August, and look forward to returning to read and catch up on your blog on my return on 05th September. Hopefully apart from the odd Hotel Inspection that has to involve playing Golf on their Championship golf course or trying out their Beers , Wine and Excellent Cuisine whilst trying out their confortable sunbeds, is the only part of Travel I want to experience on Holiday, So I Wish you luck, and hope you do get a few people interested

Lee, I think your right - there will be very few people that will take up the option of reading the blog on a mobile / PDA, but it’s a functionality that the blog software offers so it seems a good idea to atleast offer the opportunity to readers.
I’m also thinking about offering a podcast, but I’m not sure people will appreciate my dulcit Yorkshire accent! I’m going to have to rethink that one.
Blogs are extremley powerful, and I have just created one for my business, which will market the holiday homes, and hopefully bring more visitors to the website, which is slightly suffering due to extreme competition.

Great news on the coverage… well done!
Paul
PS - what have you done exactly to make the blog PDA/mobile friendly? This isn’t something I’m very familiar with… but I use Wordpress for my blog so I guess it’s something I could be doing.

Paul, I have tried a few Wordpress plugins, and none of them worked apart from the plugin on Alex King’s site - its been tested on three UK networks, 1 US and 1 Australian network and works fine.
Hope this helps

Thanks, Darren… I ought to have a look at that some time.

It’ll take you five minutes max - all you do is load a file to your plugin folder, and a file where your index file is and log on to the wap phone and enter your normal web address, and you’ll see a readable blog with images (resized) within the content.
Whilst I doubt many people will use this feature, it’s great offer readers something different. I’ve used it a few times to read blog comments whilst I was walking up Ilkley Moor this weekend ![]()
