Not that I have a crystal ball but I can see the future for DIY holidays to be rosy, why you may ask. Simply because international airlines from around the World are stopping paying commission to travel agents, which means a reduction in profit for many of them.

So how will they re-coop the money that they have lost from airlines, one guess from holidaymakers pockets. I’ll predict that within the next five years travel agents will be charging to search and book your holiday, on top the cost of the holiday, and the additional extras, i.e. airport transfers and in-flight food.
Many of them won’t be able to survive if they don’t recoup some of the lost revenue, and they already feel badly done by because travellers are going to the travel agents to seek advice, then book the holiday online/
I should know I have done it numerous times. So why does this sound like good news for DIY holidays?
Well simply because you can book your flight online with the numerous low cost airlines available, and then look for accommodation on the internet without paying commission and paying for a travel agent to do the searching for you..
Booking your holiday on the internet may take time, but will holidaymakers pay for a travel agent to do it for them, when you have the likes of Google and MSN to do it for you.

You could very well be right Darren. Not only have the agents fees been cut by airlines, we booked a trip to Morocco recently on the internet, directly with the travel company. Within the quote was an “online discount” of â¬60 each. When I queried this I was told it was the same amount they would have paid to a Travel agent in commission!! So a result for the customer.
